Default Anbody know the new S67 14ME parameters?

I just down loaded the new Smarty file for the ME, its version 14ME and it now has a VGT option. A great fellow over at a local diesel shop at Diesel Power Products told me about the new file and new VGT control option, but said no one is sure of the parameters and what exactly the number 1 setting does versus the number 8 setting. He said number 3 has been working good for his customers and has so for me as well.

Can anybody shed some light on this?

I'm running 14ME, which particular setting do you have a question about? The VGT settings?

This info is straight from Bob at MADS. Maybe it will help explain what you want to know. If you still have any questions, post them up and I'll try to answer them for you.

-Main goal of this new revised version is to do away with excessive smoke!
Up to CaTCHER # 7 there is now virtually NO SMOKE. At 130 additional Hp we're
hitting the efficiency limit of the turbo. Thus, # 8 an # 9 still do smoke some
but at WOT ONLY and the smoke compared to R12 is reduced by at least 90%.
"Almost" smoke free...

-SW's # 8 and # 9 are now 200Hp above stock. REAL numbers, no hype!
( yes that's right 200 ponies more with WAY less smoke than before! )

-EGT's are reduced.

-A couple more codes are killed

-It is now possible for the customer to dial in the VGT responsiveness ( In the revo options )
The VGT levels are as follows:
1) stock ( makes for a somewhat sluggish throttle )
2) The Default one, good compromise between responsiveness and MPG
3) For Mileage! Less responsive than 2 but better for mileage ( Should be used for towing heavy )
4) As responsive as possible without creating too much backpressure. Mileage will suffer with this one!

The R14"S" provides the same options / performance as R14ME. Being the only difference between the two
the ability to disable the DPF / EGR code free.

130 HP with no smoke.

Shoot me.

How long until they come out with a controller that independently operates a VGT based on a stock Dodge map? That's that I want...

ETXBlueRam,
Thanks, thats what I was curious about was the VGT settings now avaliable, I had heard there was 8 settings for it and nobody could explain the difference between 1-8, but the parameters you explained sound great!

Wow, more power with less smoke??? This is a newbie comment here, but I heard from one of the best Diesel turbo builders that may be out there, Bell Pius from Bell Turbo, that his rule of thumb is to tune for maximum smoke? Wonder if Mads and the other tuners are just getting more efficient at making power, or is the smoke part just for the "nostalgia?"

I just uploaded the 14ME last night and I have very noticable smoke at SW5, TM2, RP2, VGT3 just cruising along in 6th. Put a little foot on her and she thickens nicely. Nothing like a mushroom cloud of death, but very noticable. Heck I even get a little puff just blipin the throttle at a light....so Im pretty content so far. Seeing how I already have to polish up the tips of the stacks!

Thanks again!
Mike

You're welcome. There are only 4 settings for the VGT..whereas there are 9 main power level settings. Odd numbers add timing, even numbers don't. Here's the quick guide I copied from the MADS site. One thing to note that hasn't been updated on the site yet, is that SW8 and SW9 with ME14 software are 200hp tunes.
Not sure what else you have done to yours, but mine won't smoke at all on SW5 with those settings. I can get a little puff every once in awhile out of SW7, but only under WOT. Under most circumstances I'll have to disagree with tuning for max smoke. It's not always the best way to make max power. If you're burning what fuel you put into it, you're not going to see much if any smoke after your turbo spools.

Here's the settings guide from MADS' website:

Fast guide to Smarty's software levels

The horsepower settings. except #0, all other softwares have a
modified "Torque management" ( TQM ). The throttle response
is greatly improved but is set to a save limit. With "Save" I mean
save for your tranny and rest of the driveline.

SW # 0 : Half power

SW # 1 : 30 Hp increase, with added timing

SW # 2 : 60 Hp increase, no added timing ***

SW # 3 : 60 Hp increase, with added timing

SW # 4 : 90 Hp increase, no added timing ***

SW # 5 : 90 Hp increase, with added timing

SW # 6 : 130 Hp increase, no added timing ***

SW # 7 : 130 Hp increase, with added timing

SW # 8 : 170 Hp increase, no added timing *** °°°

SW # 9 : 170 Hp increase, with added timing °°°

°°° Do not use for prolonged high speed runs! Speeds exceeding approx
105 mph can result in high exhaust gas temperatures and damage the
Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) !!!
*** All even numbered softwares (2-4-6-8) without timing are to be used
for stacking with other after market power adding devices that also add
their own timing. NO additional timing has to be used with the odd
numbered softwares (1-3-5-7-9).
Severe engine damage will result !!!

Yeah, not sure what I have working, bone stock with DPF delete and straight all the way back from the turbo including the "knock catalyst" (I have been told thats its name...looks like a regular cat right behind the turbo) and ran it on SW5, and all the other options on 2 and it left a nice "vapor" trail of smoke all the way behind me just crusing in 6th around 50 mph hitting a small grade and the turbo doing a little work. No joke, the top inch of my stack outlet is black all the way around. Now it didnt smoke out the road or nothing crazy like a pile of tires burning, but I could see the whole trail swooping over the tail gate and fading into the sky.

I changed my VGT from 3 to 2 and much nicer and quicker response from idel. Deff recommend 2 over 3 on a stocker.

Another Mads question for ya...does the program already including a "boost fooler" signal? As in I dont need one of those plug in's (Quadzilla boost fooler) to fool the MAP and make additional boost over stock?

Thanks!!

The only way you would use a fooler also is if you had an aftermarket turbo. The boost fooling is in the programming on the smarty
