Default Max tow package..

Hello gents, I'm new to this Diesel community and am looking for your suggestion!! I'm currently looking at a 2012 3500 DRW crew cab truck and it doesn't have the max tow package. Is this something I can add later on or is this something I must have from factory only?

Seems like the package includes 4:10 rear axle ratio and upgraded tranny coolers and such. Would it be too expensive to add later or should look for another truck?? Only reason I ask is because I can't find the exact truck I want and the closest to my wants was this one...

2012 3500 dually in Bright white/slate gray & russet interior. It's a Laramie longhorn truck with all the gadgets. Only one that I found available without a rear entertainment package and other stuff that I didn't need. Without this package the towing capacity is limited to about 14k lbs. Not that I need this capacity right away but would like to know if this is something I can upgrade to in future without too much trouble....

Thank you much in advance for your assistance!!

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Gents, I need a response ASAP... I need to make up my mind to get or not get this truck.

You done need 4.10 gears, these 6.7s have power to move alot of weight, and you cb add the coolers at a later date, they shouldn't be that much

^^ thank you sir. Seems like the truck gets rated to about 14k limit without that axle ratio. I would really like to have that capability, oh well... I guess I'll this now and upgrade at a later date. Everything else is exactly what I want except for the lack of this one package!!

I must be lost. The towing capacity on these trucks is much higher than 14K right? I think it's above 21,000 lbs. I never wanted the tow package because of the 4:10 gears. The 3:73's are more than sufficient to tow just about anything you want and the fuel economy is better as well.

21k tow rating only when you get the max tow package or else you are around 14k.

I don't have the tow package so I went to the web to check it out. I'm not sure what it is you are looking at for towing stats but it's really clear that these trucks tow more than what you are talking about. the real difference in towing capacity is from single to duel rear wheels and even then it's only about 1100 lbs. The tow package gives you the taller rear gears and the break controler. As far as I can see on the Dodge website there is no change in any of the springs or suspention, trans, or engine. I tow with mine and I bought it spacificly for that purpose. This is my second Dodge duelly in the last five years. I'd check the dodge website again for the specs. Sounds like a really nice truck you are looking at and I hope you find the one you want. Just a quick sugestion... you might try looking on the web at all dealers. Most will deliver for free and you can deal over the phone very successfully from my experiance. Again good luck.

I thought the brake controller was included on all the trucks. I think it's the gearing and a 2nd or upgraded transmission cooler?

Just picked up a 12 Laramie Longhorn crewcab dually. This thing is amazing....

Got the only truck in the northeast with the Slate/Russet interior. Exterior is the deep cherry and tan combination. Gas mileage is only at 14mpg... Hoping for better mileage as time goes by...
