Default Cleaning EGR

I got a P0402 code the other day and the dealership said it is a clogged up EGR valve. I have 21000 miles on truck and he said it was a 12k mile warranty part. Does anyone know how to dissasemble and clean? I bought the fluid from them to do it.

I can't see how it could only be warrantied for 12k miles. It should at least be 36k if it is not considered emissions part which would be longer

It's considered a maintance item. In the same category as brakes and tires. Needs to be cleaned periodically. I asked if this is the case why wasn't I told about it when I bought my truck. Small chance I might get it cleaned but am now waiting to find out. I don't want to wait to long. If I need to I will do it my self. It is supposedly full of SOOT

Sounds like BS to me. Is it listed in your owners manual or maintenance book? If not tell them to Kiss you know what and get it cleaned.

wasn't that hard... Four bolts and it comes right off.. Soaked it a little while. Hit it with little cleanning brush from parts cleaner. Just remember to TIGHTEN THE CLAMPS UP ON THE CONNECTING PIPE. I have a horrible leak. Left tools at friends house. Will tightned up tomorrow.

It is a warrantible repair.but should be doable by the diy guy.Pull it off the manifold, then on the bench pull the end off remove the valve retainerremove the valve and have at it.

How often should you clean the EGR?

I have the DPF delete. If I just unplug the EGR, will it be the same as deleting it all together?
