Default "To shim or plug, that is the question"

A question for all you 6.7 techs out there. I have a 2008 Dodge 2500, 6.7, DPF deleated, EGR, & EGR Cooler deleted, 5" exhaust from engine to tailpipe, chipped with Edge with Attitude. I do NOT hotrod, but on occassion pull heavy trailer 10K or larger. A nice gentleman from one of the site sponsors said I don't need to worry about fuel rail pressure unless I going to add lots of HP and TQ. I email H & S and they said, "Due to the weak pressure limiting valve we recommend installing a fuel rail plug or fuel rail shim kit on all 2007-2009 Dodge Trucks with the Cummins engine after installing any aftermarket tuning." I want to protect my engine and don't forsee adding anything else except a S & B air cleaner. "What should I do, Shim it- Plug it- or leave it alone". All help appreciated.

My .02 shim it plugging is a bad idea when you plug the rail it cant release pressure meaning that if pressure spikes severely it can kill anything from the rail to the injectors. there is a blow off valve on the rail for a good reason (to protect the high pressure fuel system). shimming will allow the fuel release valve to relieve pressure it will just happen at a higher pressure. anyhow my .02 shim it a little more trouble but much safer

I've been running my truck with the 175 HD tune with no problems on the stock relieve valve. I would just save my money and leave it alone if I were you.

Thanks SC Diesel. Makes me worry less, because I do turn it up occasionally.

I agree I would shim it at the very least.
