that is the reason any egr engine should be modded to remove the egr 
my 09 with 200000 km was almost that bad when I got it and I pulled all the egr garbage off
I have seen big truck engines with egr's on them ruin a new engine in 60000 km where those engines would run a million before a rebuild non egr

what were the symptoms when it clogged? my 07.5 just shut down and lost power/ wont idle, egr is unplugged but not blocked off. im running a H&S XRT PRO and dpf deleted exhaust, truck started sputtering and shut down, trys to run for a few seconds when you first start it, then it dies and doesnt want to start back, lots of black smoke for the few seconds it does idle(very roughly i might add). flashing lightning bolt on the dash?
