Besides a realy expensive fluid, and not readlily found, its a big thing to worry about when it comes to the DEF(Diesel Emission Fluid). Not to mention these trucks now do what is called a Regeneration. Since 2007 diesel come with a DPF(Diesel Particulant Filter) Which catches soot from the exhaust and when it fills up, you got to stop and let the truck burn your diesel and time while it burns out the soot. Just something to consider.
Manufactures use DEF Now so they can get more power and mileage out of them, the power is on the good side but the mileage sucks. near 12 mpg

You might as well embrace it. And it seems that I can find the stuff almost every place I stop for fuel now. Guess that just means it's nice driving by 2 full service truck stops on the way to and from work now. You can go quite awhile without filling up that tank. My 2500 is getting 18 mpg in its first 1000 miles so far. Obviously, you can plan on less

Re 2012 2500
My intent was to get a new truck with all the creature features & not have the urea injection.
There is plenty of info on deletes and agreed the newer the truck the more involved it gets. Thus far the comfort and power is so superior to my 02 that's its unreal . I haven't had time to check egt's etc , I"m sure their high. For right now I"m going to read up and plan my mods ...

I just purchased 2013 Ram 2500 6.7 Laramie 4x4 Mega Cab. At first i wasnt too thrilled about the urea, but is seems to readily available were i live. My experience which is only a 127 miles is 22 mpg highway. Im sure not going to complain about that. Also my dealership said oil changes are only $59, which is much cheaper than my f250 6.0 was.

Re 2013 mega
That's good news, I had no idea that there was that much of a mileage boost between 2012 and 2013. You will really enjoy that truck...
I am amazed at the ride comfort and power ....still looking for excuses to go somewhere.
Have put around 600 miles on mine...that new 6 speed automatic is sweet , unusual that it shows a higher payload towing capacity than the manual.
Weird
