Default Short Duration DPF Cleaning Question

I accidentally posted this as a reply to an old unrelated thread. One day I'll figure out how to do this.
I have an 08' F350, 6.4 Powerstroke with 145K mi. Truck runs like a scalded cat. I put about 20K miles/yr on it. High school and college rodeo will do that.
I recently replaced a failed exhaust gas temp sensor, the middle one, but I understand this is to be expected.
My question is that since I replaced the sensor, the "cleaning exhaust filter" message appears for about four seconds then goes away. Used to be that the cleaning cycle would come on for about 5 minutes if driving on the highway. Occasionally smoke would ward off tai-lgaiters, but that usually only lasted a few seconds.
Is the short duration normal? Is my DPF really getting cleaned? Or is it going into regen mode but something is kicking it back out again?
If there is already a thread regarding this issue, ignore my rant, but someone please point me in the right direction.
