Default Clutch help....1994 6.5 5sp Dual Mass? etc

OK for the past few days when I push in the clutch, there is a rubbing sound (but not every time) I figure it is the throwout bearing starting to give grief....., and today the tranny was grinding going into reverse. I shut the truck off and put it in reverse and restarted the truck, parked it, then tried it again. everything was OK. Then later I tried it again, and now going into reverse is getting difficult, she grinds.

If I have to pull the tranny and replace the throw-out bearing, pressure plate and the disk, should I look at installing a solid flywheel? How do I know if it has a dual mass without pulling anything first? And is a solid flywheel a direct replacement for the dual mass?

What is the possibility it is the master or slave or both?

I'll reword this, Do I stick with a dual mass flywheel or should I change it to a solid flywheel, and if I change it, is there anything I need to know or change? I will do the pressure plate, disk, throw out bearing, and pilot bearing.

the conversion is about 4-500 FOR A SOLID FLYWHEEL Iwould look at your bellhousing there is a grease fitting for your pivot ball it holds your clutch fork on the only way to tell if you have dual mass it has 2 clutch plates. good luck try the grease fitting first

Dual mass flywheels are multi piece flywheels-there is still only 1 clutch disc.
DMF to SMF (Clutch and flywheel) - Diesel Place : Chevrolet and GMC Diesel Truck Forums

Solid flywheel:

Definately get the conversion kit to change from dual mass flywheel to solid flywheel if need be-you don't want the dual mass timebomb anymore if that is what it came with.

Rockauto lists a LUK conversion kit with all the parts to switch from dual mass to solid flywheel-get the part # and order locally or buy from them or see if you can get it from a site sponsor here.

I say go with the solid flywheel, the dual mass flywheels are trouble.
