Default garrett powermax turbo

I have a 07 superduty with intake, exhaust, edge juice with attitude platinum edition and I have acquired a Garrett powermax Turbo that I couldn't pass up I was curious if I needed headstuds before I could install this or if I could get away with the factory bolts, also does it have more performance gain by installing it or keeping g the factory turbo

It will support a little more up top. With the mods you have you shouldn't notice much of anything excecpt more noise.

Might want to look at switching tuners as well. Your trans will thank you, and you can get more potential out of that turbo. Still not much, but more than you would now. The powermax is really designed as a stock replacement. It's still a relatively small turbo, but a great drop in replacement with some noise to it! A set of 155cc sticks and that turbo would make a great combo just under 500 at the wheels with the proper tuning.

You'll notice more by switching to an SCT than you will by dropping that turbo in right now.

The best gains out of a PowerMax will include using an SCT. I run a mild SCT tune with the PM on stock bolts and tow my boat. I have no issues with my setup.

The PM will give you some serious gains when running 15PSI. Seems a like stock on the low end but up top it hits hard and the power comes on nicely.

For your setup use the Edge on lower power settings and save up for an SCT with tunes. The tranny will last longer and you will love the power.

I do love to hear a screaming Turbo, I totally have plans on getting the sct livewire I had acquired a x3 but sold it cause I liked the shift on the fly better, I also have plans on a lift pump and have been reading alot of your guys threads on the 6.4 banjo bolts, I also have a sinister egr delete and will probably throw it on when I do the Turbo cause from what I have read in your guys other threads that's the time to do it, so if you guys have any more advice to making a nasty 6.0 please let me know would like to show some of these efi lived duramaxipads around here what a Ford can do

Well if you want bigger and better, we need to know your future plans for the truck, if you ever plan on towing again, and what your budget is.

Switch on the fly is one of the worst things going for a 6.0. Sure it's nice to flip a switch to change a tune, but your transmission is 100% incapable of on the fly tuning, which means it's stuck at stock settings. Crank the chip up and all of a sudden your trans is wondering WTF is going on.

If you plan to change anything such as turbo or injectors you really NEED an SCT anyways. With a powermax, since it's so close to stock you can get away with your Edge, but your trans will bite you sometime down the road. The EDGE does NOTHING for the trans. SCT can access the TCM and change anything in the trans, effectively "tuning" the trans to match the power from the motor. This is why we can make a 5R110 live behind 500 RWHP reliably and an allison can't hold more than 100hp over stock without giving up (if you're running it hard).

For a fuel system I recommend an Airdog 2 and the 6.4 (or ebay) banjo bolts. On top of that, the most important part of a fuel system and the #1 most important upgrade (IMO) on any 6.0 is a fuel pressure gauge. Without that, you're flying blind. 6.0 injectors are NOT cheap, but fuel pressure gauges are.

A coolant filter is a great inexpensive upgrade, especially if you're already draining the coolant system.

An oil cooler rebuild would be a great idea since you're already digging in. I wish I did mine while I had mine apart for the EGR delete.

Any plans to do headstuds?

I would love to do headstuds and have the studs already but holy hell expensive to get installed everywhere around here wants $3500-$5000 to do it I've heard of people doing them one at a time but I am kinda iffy on that I just wish I could pop the stock bolts right now cause I'm still under warranty and maybe talk the dealership into putting studs in under warranty

Don't do them one at a time, complete waste IMO. You're right, to pay someone to do it is expensive. I know there is a few guys on some of the powerstroke sites that will install them for under $2k btw...

Popping stock headgaskets really shouldn't be hard if you try, just saying. I would talk with some of the local techs first before you try. I've seen trucks get studded under warranty that were never puking coolant in the first place.
