Default Best Bang for $

I just purchased a 2004 Ford F-350 power stroke 6 liter. What should be my first motification or bolt on to get the most power for the money? The truck is all stock. It will be a daily driver and occasionally used to tow a trailer. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Gauges...

Then exhaust...

Then a EGR block off...

Then a SCT with some good tunes.

Then some head studs... If you can, do the studs sooner rather then later.

Add a coolant filter to that list, but yeah what he said.

What they said would not own a 6.0 without a coolant filter.

Thanks this should keep me busy, been reading up im pretty excited about this truck. I guess the next thing i would like to ask is who makes the best aftermarket parts or are they all pretty similar. The coolant filter sounds like a must and will be the first project. Then gauges I guess.

For the coolant filter, they all do the same thing. I have the one from dieselsite.com it's pretty nice, works just fine.

Gauges are one thing you get what you pay for. Autometer has a great selection, good gauges. I use the Isspro EV2's also a great gauge but can be expensive. Stay away from glowshift.

Exhaust is more personal preference, they all do the same thing. Just figure out if you want stainless or can live with aluminized steel. The aluminized is cheaper but will corrode faster.

For studs, most use ARP's and they're just fine, there are H-11 studs that are more $$$. There are 1000+rwhp trucks using ARP's though if that tells you anything. The biggest thing with studs is head/block prep.

sounds like you are on the right track. I would kinda agree that you get what you pay for with guages but i have been running the glowshift guages for a few mounths now and know of a few other people that have had them for a wile and seem to like them mine read accurate and i have had no problems with them and you cant beat the price the only thing i really dont like is they are kinda bright at night but I also have the quad pod. Anyways when you get guages no mater what brand i would get fuel pressure (a must) oil temp and coolant temp you want to make sure that your oil and coolant temp stay withen 15 deg under normal driving conditions if not you know you are having some issues. Good luck
o yea i posted a link at the bottom of glowshifts web site

Hate to sound like a broken record but I would recommend the list of stuff that I have done to my 6.0L. It has taken me a while and cost me some cash but I have the assurance that Banks does solid research on each part for every vehicle before they sell it. Stuff ain't cheap but like the others have said you get what you pay for. FYI I have a Banks Bullet tuner for sale that will work with your '04. It is a take off that comes with the thermo-couple and has a few settings. I used this before I upgraded to the iQ with the Economind. Check that stuff out before you set your truck up with a ton of gauges. With the iQ you can change out whatever you want to monitor with a push of the buttons (like a smart phone). I have included their website so you can check them out as well.

PHONE-IN ONLY! HUGE SALE - FACTORY-DIRECT ONLY

Here is the link for the Bullet I am selling:
Banks Power | 03-07 Ford - 6.0L Power Stroke>>Banks Bullet

Here is the link for the iQ if you can swing it:
Banks Power | 03-07 Ford - 6.0L Power Stroke>>EconoMind® Diesel Tuner & Banks iQ

I agree, no Banks products over here. It's not that they have a "bad product" per se, they just cost more, and make less power. They are however really good at marketing and making large attractive ads in diesel power mag... that's about it.

Oh, they do have good intercoolers... that's about all I'd even consider buying from them.

SCT with custom tunes is the only way to go on a 6.0.
