which exhaust?
i have an 05 6.0. it has silverline duals that were put on when the truck was new. we snowplow and the metal is starting to rust because of salt. i have no muffler but still have the cat. im getting ready to get rid of the cat and either do 4 or 5 inch single straight pipe or a single stack. i use the bed of my truck so i was gonna build me something to protect the stack in the bed from damage but nothing to make it look bad
my question is with the stack, my truck dont smoke right now but will the stack still soot my bed if it doesnt smoke. or will it smoke some when i take the cat off
so let me get your opinions on my exhaust set up. by the way i have a regular cab long bed, you can kinda see it in my avatar.
and if you have another idea for exhaust let me know. im open to all ideas
thanks

It wont smoke anymore than it does now. the only way it's gonna smoke is with a programmer.
MBRP sells a diamond plate cover for stacks, to keep plastic bottles and whatever else you toss in your bed from melting to the pipes. You can buy that or copy it yourself.
With a single, not much you can do, but I'm sure you can come up with something.

My truck has never significantly smoked without a tuner. All diesels will smoke a little. Smoke happens when a truck is pumping more fuel than it can burn off efficiently. Even after you remove the cat yours shouldn't smoke much until you put a tuner or other part on it that would increase the flow of fuel. Good Luck!
PS. I'm running 5" single straight pipe - no cat no muffler

ya i got a good deal from a freind on the exhaust i have and it was supposed to be stainless steel and turned out only the tips were stainless. i will prolly end up doing a regular straight pipe because i figure the hard ware like clamps and flexpipe on a stack prolly wont last against the salt. i like the stack look but dont care for a bed covered with soot especially after i get my sct.

o and does anyone know of a exhaust kit that comes out in front of the rear tire or is that a custom job

That's custom for sure.
I run MBRP stack setup on mine, and all of the hardware lasted through this NY winter, and I got under it a week ago and could loosen the exhaust clamps without any issue. It is their stainless stuff, and my stacks are powdercoated black. The Stainless exhausts will still get SOME rust, but it wont rot away.
I do get a little black water on mine if it sits out in the rain a lot, but I only get it if I get on it hard. It doesn't blow out if I drive normally, and if I drive normally long enough it just evaporates from the heat. You can of course remedy all of this by simply drilling a small hole in the elbow under the truck, but not a huge deal for me, my truck is black anyways.
