I read this post a while back when I got my 6.0 stroker so I bought a sct programmer. I don't know what the X-Cal 3 is but I got the SF3 Power Programmer. I am not very happy with the fuel mileage when I am babying it I can't seem to get much better than 13-14mpg on my little 22 mile commute to work. My wife took it to the air port to pick up her mom and got maybe 16-17mpg. I have it on a street program... I only saw performance, street and some tow tunes.

How do I get the custom tunes... it says I can store up to three... I like the idea of the extreme tune getting better fuel mileage... that is why I got it... I'll tell you what it sure pushes out some mean ponies.

I have an air raid cold air intake, 4in straight up to the 8in stack 35in Dick cepek, 20in rockstar rims. Flow through fifth wheel tailgate, 2003, 4x4 crew cab short bed 3500. The erg is unplugged, I get a little coolant smell sometimes and most of the time I can tell there is a lot of pressure in the reservoir. Oh and it is missing the little sensor in the air box. Had a mechanic tell me I didn't need it.. but he was the same guy that couldn't figure out how to install my power steering pump in a way that it wouldn't puke out all the oil by the time I drove the 30 miles or so home.

You guy seem to know your stuff so any help would be appreciated!!

35" mud tires are not going to help your fuel mileage. Neither will babying it.

Myself and all of my buddies with 6.0's get around 15, some with 37" tires are getting 13. They're not great by any means in that category.

The SF3 holds 3 canned tunes and/or 3 custom if I'm not mistaken. The X-cal series only hold custom tunes, so if you bought one without tunes it'd be empty.

Custom tunes might help your mileage out, but you'll like the way the truck drives more too.

If it's completely missing the air filter reminder, that's not good. That means there is an open hole between your filter and your turbo, meaning you're sucking in unfiltered air. Hopefully it was plugged up... might want to check that.

Sounds like you've got headgasket or EGR cooler issues too. Welcome to the club!

Default MPG Mods

I have a 2005 F350 6.0 and I removed the cat. I lost some bottom end and my MPG dropped big time. I was thinking about getting a down pipe and a 4" exhaust to improve the MPG. After removing my cat I do not thing removing back pressure is the answer to improving MPG. I am afraid I will loose more MPG. I pull a 12000 lb 5th wheel and with the cost of fuel I would purchase something to improve my MPG. What can I do to get more MPG out of my 6.0 Diesel. I an so impressed with this truck pulling my 5th wheel I am going from Pa to Alaska next year.If I purchased something to improve mpg the trip will pay for it self fast. I will get more miles per fill up.

Your turbo will provide more than enough backpressure you will ever need, so removing the cat didn't hurt anything. I'd straight pipe the stock exhaust or get a 4" turbo-back. You may not notice an MPG, but it will keep the truck cooler running up hills and what not towing that trailer. What other mods do you already have and what is your budget?

The hole has some masking tape over it.... what is my next move with the erg or head gasket? If its pricey to fix and I don't have money, what should I expect or what would you advise??

I've noticed this is mainly a cummins site.... Creators, mods, and such mostly have cummins and all the site sponsors are directed at cummins

I believe it was a cummins only forum at one point, then they eventually added the other brands... I think. I could be totally wrong on that though.

Moon, not sure what else to tell ya, if it's pushing coolant its either the cooler or the gaskets. Cooler you could fix or remedy really cheap, gaskets are going to be pricey no matter what, unless you do the work yourself, you can save a lot of labor costs. Did you watch the video I posted from the guys at bulletproof on how to test for an EGR cooler failure or headgasket failure?

I have to ask what would be good for just improving MPG and to help when towing a 12000 lb 5th wheel? I removed my cat and I am going to add a muffler delete. I killed the intake! I also need to change my speedometer due to my tires. I do not want 150 extra HP. I want to keep my head gaskets.
