05 6.0L
Hey guys i dont know much about the 6.0L but my roommate is looking at buying one and ask me to look into them. He just wants it to be reliable so i told him get headstud and an EGR delete. What else is recommended? Do you need a tuner if you remove the EGR? Are there common turbo problems with these trucks?
The motor on the truck is blown but the truck comes with a different motor with 60K on the clock. So what is easier? pulling the cab off or removing the front clip? Also the truck has 70K on the chassie and trans and they are asking $15,000 for it. Is this a good deal?
any input would be awesome

Make sure the motor will work in that truck, all 6.0's are not the same, and a lot of the electrical components will not plug into each other! I would get this all verified from a Ford dealer.
Headstuds, having the heads decked for flatness, EGR delete and a coolant filter are great mods for reliabilty. On an 05 you will more than likely need the SCT to shut off the check engine light after an EGR delete. You dont need it if you dont mind having the CEL on all the time. Some guys dont need it and some do, so it's a toss up, but I would just plan on getting it. (you need custom tunes for this btw)
Pulling the cab is far easier and less time consuming if you have the means to do it.
They blew the motor at 70k miles? What on earth were they doing with it? What is actually "blown"? Mine has blown headgaskets, but that hardly warrants the purchase of a spare motor. That scares me a bit...

I'd still verify the motor to the vin of the truck (make sure it will work) instead of just taking the guys word on it.
Also you usually don't see coolant getting into the oil when the headgaskets go... I have really yet to see anyone post that on the forums I am on. When the headgaskets go, the compression just pushes coolant out the overflow, and when the truck is shut off the pressure pushes coolant back into the cylinders and it goes back and forth like this. I'm not saying it can't happen cause it might, but I have yet to see it...
