The High idle would probably be a process referred to as Regneration in the newer models. The idle increases to a higher than normal RPM and maintains that RPM until the process is complete it can last anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes depending on the amount of carbon deposits and soot build up within the exhuast recirculation area. It idles higher in an attempt to burn the accumalated carbon out of the system which sometimes gives of white smoke while idling.

Preventing this process from completing (by shuting the truck off after a 5 minute drive, only driving short distances, etc.) it prevents the clearing out of the built up soot/carbon deposits and will cause the truck to enter into the process more often than not. Meaning tht it will keep attempting to run the process until it is complete.

I am not sure what exactly would trigger the "emission light" but it could be the EGR vavle becoming clogged which prevents it from recirculating exhuast gas back into the manifold to be cleaned further more which means its being pumped into the exhuast system as "not clean enough" air.. causing your emissions problem.

My suggestion, take it on a highway drive about an hour drive at the speed limit. Open up the engine and enable it to clean itself. that is the only other option, other than letting it high idle in your drive way to complete the process, that won't cost you money. Hope this helps

Its most likely your egr valve. Do you have a programmer? Can you read the codes?

Sorry I should have added this to my other post. The 6.0 does not regenerate. The 08 6.4 and up have regeneration.

Need more info... did it just start doing this recently? Have you made any changes? Get the programmer off of it, does it still do this? IF it was injectors, it would more than likely still do it when you put it in gear too...no?

Throttle bodies were only on the 03/04 trucks, what year truck is this even?

had a similar thing happen with my truck...it did it with my superchip on and off. for me it was the egr that went out first but a week later the high pressure oil pump went out so idk which one caused the problem but if i where you i would take it to a mechanic and see if he can diagnose it. (or better yet go to the dealership and pay the 100 bucks and have them check it)
