Default Garrett GT37R

Hey guys,

Any 1st or 2nd gen 12v guys using this turbo? My truck is already set up with the he351 and have a chance to get a new garrett for a good deal. The turbo is a direct replacement for a 3rd gen and everything lines up with my current he351, except I'm not really sure about how the coolant lines are routed (1st Gen lines vs 3rd Gen lines). Also I still have stock injectors at 192,000 but have ordered some SDX 5x.012s. I think the 5x.012s and the garrett would be a good match. Am I wrong? All opinions welcome.

Thanks
Brad

I'd say yes. I ran 5 x 13's with an HE351 for awhile and the truck ran very well. The GT37R probably out flows the HE351 too.

Thanks for the response. This one seems to stump people since not many 1st gen guys run Garretts. I bit the bullet and bought the turbo. Finished putting it on tonight. Really happy with it. Little less boost through the gears, but when I push it the boost is instantaneous compared to the he351, and that's with stock injectors and a larger exhaust housing. It's supposedly a .89AR and I calculated that to be around a 12.3CM^2 housing compared to the 351s which are said to have a .65AR or 9CM^2 housing. I think the ball bearings really cut down on the impellers rolling resistance. If I listen carefully, I can hear the turbo still spinning for about 6 or 7 seconds after truck is shut off. Now I all I need is more fuel. Getting anxious for the new injectors to arrive, especially now. An added bonus is the turbo whistle that I lost with the he351 is now back with the Garrett.

I replied you your post on CF. There is no linear formula to convert A/R to a cm^3 number.

A few 3rd gen people run Garretts, as garrett makes kits for their trucks. I thought about it too for awhile, as it would be nice to have a very quick spoolup to match the VE's strong low rpm fueling capability. soot4brains on DTR runs one I think.
