Default Exhaust help please?

Ok every one im new to this diesel thing but i have a few questions about this famous hood stack setup..
Every where I go or everyone I talk to they tell me it's completely illegal to run a hood stack, but I set up last night thinking about something.
Some guys love the look of a stack(or stacks)but hate that constant growl in the cab. I like the look but I want something different from everyone else so I thought about running a hood stack, I kno their completely illegal but what if I was to add a bypass valve right past the turbo, run a hood stack setup and still run a full exhaust.
Can anyone help? Your .02 is needed!!

You dont want a growl in the cab but yet your gonna put the exhaust in front of you with all that noise blowing right back at you?

I like the growl but I'm hoping the bypass/w a full exhaust will hush it down a little so I have no probs with the MAN

why? just one more thing for cops to hassle you over. Obstructed view, excessive noise, etc..

I could understand obstruction of view but I was going to cut it short and only run it when I felt like acting stupid and flip the valve when I was in town or something

If you are on the edge with the noise thing and you want to do something different, i don't think the hood stack is for you. What if you do all the work and you don't like the look/noise? id try and do something different behind the cab. I wanted something that no one else had so i did a single stack with a Y pipe so i had two stacks on one side of the bed. You could configure them how ever you want and the noise will stay on the bearable side of the spectrum.

Hey I really like that setup! Looks really sharp how much did that run ya? Like 600 bucks?
I'm on a tight budget and was trying to find the cheapest way to fab myself a stack or stacks but damn that dual offset looks mean as hell..where can I get somethin like that?

I got the 4'' stacks on craigslist for $75 and the Y pipe from flowmaster for $65 the rest i got from Napa auto parts. A 3'' 90 degree, a 3'' to 4'' adapter,a 4'' 90 degree, and a one foot pice of 4'' pipe. I think that ran about $120 so is about $240

You can always cut them to length
