Default best auto tranny

I have a getrag in one of my pickups and I want to put an automatic in it but I know nothing about the dodge auto transmissions. I need one that will hold up to pulling a camper and a stock trailer and preferably with overdrive. Any opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You might be better off to trade your truck off for a truck with an automatic. From what I've seen, the trucks with manuals are worth more than the trucks with automatics in them.

I wouldn't really want a Getrag truck and looked for an automatic that shifts well. Remember that a clutch, flywheel, and hydraulics cost as much as a replacement transmission. Automatics are kind of nice options.

I don't really want to get rid of this pickup and I need to know names like C6, TH400, 700R4 and so on I need to know what would be the best automatic trans to put behind my cummins in place of the getrag

the 727 (non-overdrive) in my opinion is a better tranny than the A518 (over drive) but you can spend the money and have the A518 built and will make a great transmission. if you do the swap how much do you want for the getrag and the other parts that are required for the 5 speed?

The A518 is based on the 727 but with the OD added. The majority of internal parts interchange.

since your going to need a different adaptor plate to match to a trannsmission the two best way to go is either with a A518 or a 47rh out of a second gen. you can run the overdrive for both of them with an adjustable pressure switch. the 47rh has the lockup torque converter vs. the a518 without but you can make it so it is a lockup. if you were to go with the 47rh you would need the flex plate and starter out of a second gen. if you go with the A518 you can probly use the same starter but im not sure about the flex plate. the A518 is probly cheaper tho to have built to handle power. you also may need different drive shafts as well. you could get a 727 and mount the overdrive unit kit to it but you could just pick up a A518 that needs rebuilding real cheap and just put ur money into having it built or the same with a 47rh if you can find one. i hope this all makes some sence.

47rh will fit the bill and almost any tranny builder is better than Dodge or ATS..... so don't depend on either of those 2..... just saying

Well if you would of posted about a year a go i would of had everything you need. I may still be able to get the parts back however. I pulled the 518 out of my 92 reg cab 4x4 and put a getrag in. I had a donor rig for most of my swap so it went well. If you do the swap you will also need to change the input shaft on the tcase from what i have been told. Or find an auto case. The autos used a smaller spline count. If you are interested PM me and i can see if the guy still has the tranny. It still had the tcase mated to it and the drive lines possibly the cooling lines too. I still have the tcooler on my pickup.
