first gen winch bumper
this is the prototype build of my fledgling shops tube bumper. the prices of just buying a winch bumper are out of my budget and no one makes prerunner winch styles. time to make my own i thought. i pulled my modified original off, here is another tube one i am working on for trucks that are not looking for the best approach angle, its design is to get weight out over the front wheels to put the power down it will also be a winch design or have a tub to hold weights. this is a overkill plate, 12"x29 3/4", that i did a little grinding on to fit it nice and tight. you can see here the bolts are in the way for the hooks and front bumper mounts so they got to go i hate lock nuts! here you can get an idea of the winch plate and height with the winch

next i notched the ends to fit over the rivets that hold the front cross member in the plate is slide all the way up and the winch set on it i marked all the holes from the bottom and began drilling all ten bolt holes. here it is with everything snuggeg up and tight, with the winch set on, this bumper is going to have an amazing approach angle, cant wait to get out and crawl it! i beat it as much as i cold and it did not even flex, maybe i over did it just a lil bit. . stay tuned for the tube build.

build it
well here is the new design thats going down, because its for my truck we are switching to the real build, a light weight, overkill, prerunner winch bumper, so we are salvaging the light bar from the last bumper to use in this one as the top bar here is the front kick up/ fair-lead mount, notched out two sections for the lights here it is just sitting in place for mock up

build
i got it marked to grind out, making it look all nice tacked in place now it is over to my welding table this is 7018 rod, i just do not care for it much i guess,

now time for the otherside, i started with 7018, cleaned the heck out of my surfice, got the temp set for good penetration, i have perfect arc length, nice movement and speed, but i think because its old rod is why it might be giving me so many issues, so i went to the rod that i have been and always will be inlove with, 6013! thank you for watching, tomorrow ill fininsh my multi pass welds, fab end caps, and whatever else i can get to as long as i do not get called in to work.
