best 1st gen build-up
Well thank God I finally got a 1991 4wd 5spd cummins!!!
Its got almost 109000 on the odometer, is totally stock, and runs better than my 03! Haha! Just not nearlly as fast...
But, I hoping to change that!
It'll mostly be a daily driver, but I want to be able to hook to a load an haul over the mountains with no issues! But I would love to drag someday too...
So........
I'm sure this question has been posted before, but... I'd like to here it from ya'll again!
If you had 3 to 5 grand to spend on a 91 first gen whats the best way to spend it?? I'm new to the 1st gen world, but I'm excited about digging in!
How much can I turn it up before the clutch and/or tranny need upgraded??
If I want to get all I can outa the VE pump, reasonably about how much HP can you get out of em??(like with injectors, turbo, lift pump, etc... but not go nuts and spend 15-30 grand) I'm would love to get it up over 400hp someday... But for now whats the best low budget things to do??
Thanks in advance ya'll!!!!!

with a ve pump you can hold a good 400 to 500 horspower(according to diesel power magazine) on a 3 to 5 grand budget i would first off get gauges a pryo and boost at the least (about 300 for everything depends on what you get) then a 3200rpm gov spring(25 bucks) a fuel pin from mnh or dennyt(100) then a torque converter or clutch (from 600 to 1000) then i would buy a good turbo like a d-tech or something(1500 to 1800) then a set of sdx or ddp injectors bout (500-800) and an electronic fuel pump like an air dog about (500-800) then of course all your free stuff like pump tune and a homemade air intake with a bhaf thats just my 2 cents on the subject butt that should get you a good amount of mower and speed keep in mind the estiments are rough and thats about a 3500 dollar budget hope this helps

you have to buy the 2 cup and a single cup. i trimmed the edges where they meet for a cleaner look. with big tach sitting next to it on dash. you can see pic in profile,I have not figured out how to post with quote. Im a Dummy.

Hey THANKS guys!
Got the head off yesterday and took it to auto zone to get it o-ringed!!! Heard they do the best job...
And I ordered my ARP head studs from walmart to put in once the head is done... Should be awesome once thats done huh??
So I decided i better get the guages in but figured wtf why not just mount em on the passenger side a-pillar... so i put em over there for a better viewing angle an mounted a little mirror on the dash over there so I can see em when I need to, since the pod mounts em upside down...
Guess with all the extra power I'll be getting from the gauges and head studs I better get to shopping for a better clutch!!
Thanks again...

yeah pretty much just sacrcasm... Obviously this 1st gen build-up question has been asked one to many times!! Cause this thread is pretty much a dud. Thanks for your helpful informative first post tho Levi!
No I haven't spent any money on it yet. I need to get gauges pretty soon.
Turned the fuel pin to the best angle.
Rotated the star wheel 1.5 turns.
And turned the fuel screw in till it hit the metal collar(only like 1 turn)
I have a minimal fuel leak on the lift pump... Any great ideas on how to fix that besides buy a new one? I took it off and looked it over and checked all the fittings. None of the fittings are leaking... As close as I can tell its leaking out of the little hole where it "breathes" gets air for pumping fuel... Can you take em apart an replace that valve??
