Default Valve body?

I have a 92' 4x4 Auto. I bought the truck with the tranny supposedly "out". I ordered a Suncoast extreme duty rebuild kit today and a converter wont be far behind. Im new to the first gen world so i was curious what a "good" valve body is for the 518A. Any suggestion?

stock valve body with a "reprogramming" kit, call transgo or B&M for a recommended kit. do some research for any common problems that are known for your transmission, most of the issues have been addressed and fixes have been developed. i've heard of steel sleeves being inserted into the valve body bc a piston has worn crooked or oblong letting fluid bypass. look up "PATC" in google, they have a very well rounded product line

I went with the transgo kit and a goerend t/c, and I replaced my accu.piston with a metal one with double metal rings at the same time. it would not shift right and would chatter (slip)while pulling a trailer under a load. I thought it was the kit or i mest something up. turns out that the metal accu. piston only idled at 50 psi and at wot was 70 psi. I bought an anodized blue one that had double 0-rings (4 total) now it stays at 80 psi at idle and 105 psi at wot. The trany now works and shifts perfectly.

yeah, to my understanding metal rings leak ALOT and are very inneficient. IMO sonax is some of the best stuff you can get and for the ol' 727 their stuff isnt priced too shabby
