The way did yours should work pretty good because the crushed part is a the bottom of the downpipe which you chopped off. The elbow is stock on 94-98-99 trucks? You can get them from cummins for around $60

i may go back and redo that part then. two 45 angles will be much better than two 90s. there is plenty of room. the crushed part is barely open to 2 inches! im glad its off there. i didnt notice any improvement in performance yet. when i bought it it was cut off just past the second elbow so a total of 3 feet long. i needed ear plugs to drive it. now i need a tip to polish it off. thanks for the info!

you wont ever really gain a whole lot of power from an exhaust system on our older trucks because they are already straight back accept for the muffler we dont hav cats or dpfs on our trucks its mainly for the sound and to keep your egts in check i did what you did with all my mods and i could hit 1450 hauling a 30 foot flat bed with 5 tons of feed and when i putt the 4 in on there it stays right aT about 12 to 1300 degrees and i may get shot down for this butt when i putt in egt probes i do it in the manifold butt you greese the butt real good and drill the hole whill the truck is running that way it blows the shavings up and the excess gets caught on the greese most people pull the turbo butt ive putt 4 in this way and we havent had any trouble with it good luck man

I put mine after turbo, if you want to know what the true egt is just add 400*F, ive seen way to many probes break and take the turbo out on big trucks back in the days trucking with my old man. They dont do it this way anymore, its all after turbo. As a matter of fact i just lost a probe in my truck, broke off, glad it wasnt pre turbo! 1200* and no more if its after turbo, you're fine. It should not be more than 12" away from turbo, usually ideal at 8-12"

i like the way you think. so your sayin 1200 is the high end of safe post turbo? i have started checkin a few things under regular working conditions....not broken... so i can start troubleshooting when something isnt right. its not science but its my way. if you know what its supposed to do its easier to pinpoint something thats not.

Yep i know what you mean, and yes 1200* on the cold side is 1600* on the hot side, combustion chamber temp. Which is about it for a diesel, id say 1200, on cold side, is pushing it and wouldnt hold it there for to long. But thats the beauty of diesels if it gets to hot just let off the throttle some and she will still pull and stay cool unlike gassers. My old C15 CAT making over 1200hp at crank would run 1050* on the cold side on a hard pull at sea level and would burry that pyro through wyoming at 7000+ feet. My VE 12v in the ford runs about 950-1000 with 2.5 turns on screw, turned fuel pin, but breathes through 5" exhaust to dual stacks pretty much from downpipe back, downpipe is 3" stocker.

well wjat kind of gauge probe are you using because we use autometer and i havent ever heard of that problem are you sure you arent tightening them to much or something just wondering

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

and if you see 1200 post turbo thats prety warm man i only se 1250 pre turbo 1600 degrees on a diesel engine like that is when stuff starts to melt i dont ever get mine over 1400 with what i have done to my rig butt every one has there own opinion good luck man

I said 1200 post turbo is the limit id push it to for short bursts, never said i recommend holding it there for long, mine stays at 950-1000 with fuel pedal to floor pulling a 8k lb trailer. See some of these guys on youtube with 80lbs of boost pushing 1800* pre turbo? yeah a bit much id say..... Most of factory stuff on big trucks are ISSPRO, they usually break off, i dont have much experience with autometer but cant imagine their stuff being any better, i dont think im over tightening em as i barely put any pressure on the probe.... I know the pick up truck guys do it this way, and have been for years, but ill stick to my big truck tactics and have peace of mind.
