Whats the best Turbo upgrade that is a direct bolt on?

Get a HX35, even though they are similar in size it is a better design and will flow more. Then if you need more later you can build yourself a HX35/40 hybrid.

i thought the hx35 was the stock turbo....? guess im an idiot. what turbo is on there now? says Holset on it

h1c's are stock 1st gen turbos. intercooled trucks have a bigger turbo than the non... exhaust housings sizes vary from year to year.

I have a non ic 89 and have an hy35 laying around from my 01. I know the exhaust housing is small but would it be worth putting on the truck? I don't plan on doing injectors or anything in it, just run it with some pump tuning so in theory it would spool like a dream and egt's would be manageable

I ran the hy-9 and it ran great with a fuel pin and pump all the way up, but after the pod's went in, that was the end of that. egt's....burried the gauge

Ok, new dilemma. I may be switching turbos on my 01, leaving me with a super b special, 64/71/14. It's a non IC truck, is there a way to get that thing on there? Will it bolt to the manifold?
