Default questions about hx40

i wanted to know a little about the hx 40. i found one on craigslist at a fair price it said it came off a 99 volvo diesel. i was wondering about the comp. wheel size and exhaust housing size on such a turbo and if it would be suited to my first gen. i want sumthing that spools better or at least equal to stock and about a 62 or 64 comp wheel thanks
also i noticed in the pic its a 6 blade comp wheel. is that good or bad? thanks

STAY AWAY !
1st it's probably a T4 flange you'll need an adapter.
2nd with 6 blades it he standard HX40, you really want the Super HX40 with 7 blades. It flows lots better.
I picked up one with an HX50 turbine on it and by the time I got the adapter on and then the '40 the compressor outlet is right against the fender and the wastegate is unreachable - that's why I have 47psi boost with the wastegate operational...I unhooked the wastegate once - that was enough - see my sig.

no an hx40 off a volvo is only a 56mm wheel and most likely when it comes from a big truck it will probably have an 18cm housing. stay away from them they suck

That's what I thought also but I bought it - for $250 - for the airflow.
And it spools - I'm guessing - at least 50% if not 75% better than the 18.5 H1C that was on it. Plus the WOT boost is nearly twice what I had with the wastegate inoperative.

With my valet on which locks the fuel pin I can still hit 25 psi whereas the H1C would only go to 15 - 17 psi and there's only a moments hesitation before the smoke clears up. With the valet off allowing the fuel pin to move I can blow some smoke but it still clears up to a heavy haze pretty quick.
Yes, I'd like a 16 turbine but I holding onto this because I think it'll be a good turbo for twins the way it flows. Won't really know 'til I get a second turbo.

ya mine stock did 20-22 as well and with a fuel pin did like 28. my hx40 was a lag monster especially on a 5 speed the thing sucked. now with ym phat shaft when that baby lights its hard to keep it between the lanes she wants to move

i picked up my phatshaft from luke for well under that. and itll be cheaper to buy one now then to keep buying 2 or 3 that dont make you happy and by the time you lose money on all of them itll be cheaper in the end to have just bought a nice new one with a warranty

Jake - that's with my valet switch blocking the boost from getting to the afc....
Maybe I'm expressing myself backwards -
valet on = no boost to afc
valet off = boost to afc

My stocker was hitting 30 - 32 but I went my 6x.016's and overwhelmed the poor little thing. Besides I found someone willing to give me $100 for it for his ricer. Hope he enjoys it as much as I enjoy my Super '40....
