1st gens rock. I have always loved them.

Me too Jason, I just have too many plans and not enough money HAHAHA

Buy the truck and try the ve. Theres nothing like the first time(or first hundred or so) you drive it after tuning the pump knowing you didn't spend any money. If you've got the money to do the p pump swap, then spend it on exhaust, guages, a turbo and maybe a new air freshener.
|
The VE pump can flow 400 fine; 300 HP can be reached on stock 9 mm injectors and stock turbo, 400 HP can be reached with POD's and a modified stock turbo (or HX-35, which really is nothing but a modified H1c.)
The new 435 injectors that are all the rage now might support a bit more than POD's. But cracking 450 requires a bigger pump head (of which there are two dozen in the country) or drugs. |
Wow guys thanks for all the great info. Why is it so hard to get a 14mm head for the VE pump? do they have more of htem in different countries or is it like a custom made deal?
|
They're all custom made. I think that they were only around $500, but some didn't last very long...
There were a bunch more available in Europe for use in Volkswagon performance applications, but those were four cylinder models and wouldn't work for some reason. |

you can get the be to 400 hp....but it will be a chore...I know you can put a bigger pump head on it to flow more fuel. But the ve is part of the character of a 1st gen.

KTA-Cummins(Brian Block) does the 14mm heads. The problem is that the clearence is so tight in the pump you cut down on the ability to lube as well. To make it live you have to keep good preasure to the pump and have a set of sticks to flow the fuel. There are some mean ones out there. Brian put down 627/1300 on a 14MM head and twins with some large custom sticks. This is the truck.
|
KTA isnt the only one that can get the 14mm heads, i know where you can get them all day long.....they are so tight that if you handle them too much the plunger wont fit the barrel, you need about 40 psi of fuel to feed it properly.
|
Yeah so do I. I know that Brain was the one who helped in development on them.
