Default Need advice on hp upgrades

Hi guys, I am building a truck for a friend and we are using an 89 non-ic motor for the build with a TF727. THe truck will be a mud only truck with rockwells and tractor tires so no street use. Don't hold it against me but it is a chevy tahoe. KDP is fixed and plans are a twin setup with an HE351 and a silver bullet 66. I know that an S400 is normally used in a twin setup but I read were another guy built a setup like this with a 64/HE351 and it spooled really well and we are getting a pretty good deal on the 66 and a he351 is easy to find. What exhaust manifold do I need to run with this to position the turbo's correctly? Plan on a set of 6 x18's or 16's, Denny T fuel pin, inner cooled head, third gen headgasket and arp studs, 3200k gov spring and all the other little tweaks I have found for the VE pump to get as much fuel as I can without a 14mm head and rotor. Is there anything wrong with what I have so far? Am I missing something? Would u do something different? Shooting for 500+ hp. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

stock manifold can work for twins... although to get to that 500 mark your better off getting a new 3 piece pulse manifold... less prone to cracking. all you have to do it flip the manifold upside down so that flange is pointing upwards, after that i think you can figure it out. sounds like you've gotta good grasp on it... 500 hp may be alittle hard to find... the VE is a hard pump to get that much fuel out of; which is why the 14 mm head and rotor came out, only prob is i've heard the head and rotor isn't reliable and is a high wear part. cant think of his name... but i guess he holds the record for 639 hp (i'm probably off a little) with the VE pump and he's running the 14 mm. 500 is a good goal, 500 fuel only may be a little hard to come by; keep reading around here there are afew things that can still be changed... indexing the throttle; getting full throttle through linkage adjustments, there's another lever that you can grind that's on the inside of the pump where the gov spring is located... description and how to do it is very vague which leads me to believe its a thing that most think it isnt a wise thing to do. you also forgot gauges... you may need nitrous or water/meth to manage egt's. i dont know how well twins keep up with egt's... i imagine pretty well

Sounds like a awesome truck but just a heads up no one has hit 500hp with a 727 yet. The non-lockup kills the HP to the ground. I'm trying as hard as I can but it seems like no matter what I do to make extra power the trann soaks it up. And I;m not on a stock tranny by any means . Your best bet will be to step up to a lock up tranny such as the 47rh or to a manual like teh stock getrag or a NV4500 (I would run the rag).

That turbo setup sounds nice. The key to turbos with 1st gens is you need fast spool up.... Like REAL fast spoolup. The VE pumps fuel hard down low and it falls off at high RPM. After about 3000 rpm its all said and done.

Keep us up to date with pics and progress!!!

Thanks guys, how much longer is the 47RH than the 727? I guess I could just move the just move the t-case back some. He also has an NV 4500 that came with the parts truck, I may try to talk him into running it. Lots cheaper than a built auto tranny. What clutch would u guys recommend. A pulling clutch from Haisley or Scheid? And I guess tower of power answered my ? about the manifold. I read about grinding the lever in the pump also, will have to go back through all those pump threads before I tear into it. WHat is a good place to get my plumbing and brackets for the twins. Is there a vendor on here that u know of that sells twin accessories? Thanks for the help guys. When I get some pics loaded up on photo bucket or something I will post some up.

Ok, I talked him into using the NV4500 that cam lying in the parts truck, just need to locate a bellhousing. Onto injectors, I read that the ic injectors are 6 x .009's. Can someone confirm this for me, I am out of town working right now so I can't go pull them myself. If they are 6 holes, can I just send them to these guys and get them honed out to 6 x.018's?

prices dont look bad at all... extrude honing tends to produce a dirty injector to my understanding, but given what your doing with the truck; its not going to matter anyways, and your running the twin set-up so you wont have to be too concerned with EGT's... for the price; i'd go for it... non IC'd injectors flow more, they choked them up 91.5 and later
