KDP, wrong gasket
I just did a kdp repair tonight on an '89 12v for my buddy tonight. He got the kit from XDP and it came with a new seal for the crank and a new gear case gasket. The crank seal fit but the case gasket was all wrong, wouldn't line up with any of the holes. I looked at the paper work that came with the kit and it was listed for a 2nd gen. Is the difference in the gasket that it is for a p-pumped gear case?? He is going to call XDP tomorrow but wanted to check with u guys to see if this was common. ALso, what are u all paying for this kit? He said he paid $90 bucks for it, seemed a little high but then I thought maybe the gaskets were the major price. Just a thought.

The best way to make RTV seal on a big, flat surface like that is to assemble it and let it sit for awhile (at least a day, two is better) with the bolts just finger tight. Then snug them down after the RTV has cured some so it actually makes a sort of it's own gasket instead of squeeznig most of it out when you tighten down the bolts.

The reason you can find some kits cheaper is they just come with a tube of silicone , not a gasket. I priced one the other day, and the only one right now that comes with the gasket is the BD KDP Kit. If he got it from XDP he probably gave right around 118.00 plus shipping , but they may have figured a discount in somewhere.

PDR Diesel Performance: KDP Kit - 1st Gen
$69.00 +S&H they say it comes with the seal idk if they're just blowin smoke or not

and do the silicone trick with permatex's "the right stuff" it wont compress as much when fully cured like silicone will... i usually use the ultra black on just about everything but if i'm feeling rich i use the right stuff
