Default 89 12v High EGT's

I have a buddy that has a 89 12v

He just got done putting on a banks intercooler and he has turned the Fuel Pin and cranked the star wheel down a little. Now he say's the EGT's are through the roof. Like 1300* without trying. He wants to get a 4" exhaust to help and I'm trying to convince him that while it will help that PLUS the BHAF (Big Honkin Air Filter) will work 10x better to cool it off. Also the kit came with a new turbo housing and he is worried that if he puts it on then the EGT's will go higher because it is smaller than stock. I tried to explain that the quicker boost will cool it better.

He leaves for a cross country (Virginia to Alaska) trip in a few weeks and he will be pulling a 28' enclosed trailer with a S-10 and two or three 4-wheelers in it. He likes the extra power for the trip but the EGT's have him woried. Can we help him fix the problem?

Really? It isn't like he went INSANE with the pump... I was hoping to here that the new turbo would help to cool it off by getting more air into the engine...

put the turbo on it...what can it hurt? Get a cheap 4 inch straight pipe exhaust.

Is that empty or towing?
What exactly has he done for pump mods? everything make em spill his guts here.

What exhaust housing did he get? Hopefuly the 14cm, make him do it, it will help too.
Get a 4" DP it'll help maybe not big, but 100 - 200 degrees. Rip Rook at
http://www.sourceautomotive.biz/ offers one, some fabrication nessecary!
or
www.stansheaders.com, no fabrication, but more money.

3200 gov spring? Do the 1/8th timing bump, that help pull some heat out of it too.

I think he does have the 14cm, I don't know why he won't put it on there. I told him about Stan's headers, he's gonna call'em tomorrow. I might bring it back for him, I'm on my way to Washington right now. As far as fuel pump tweaking, all he did was turn the fuel pin 120* and turn the afc star-wheel, I can't rememeber how much, but we wrote it down. He said he turned the full power screw too, but I'm not sure. The temps he was gettin were pullin the trailer empty. He said 900* cruisin on flat ground. I'd like to actually see what he's gettin. I've been watchin a pyro for 4 years now in a big truck, they run up quick, then stop, so I don't know what he's got.

That just doesent seem right at all to me. Has not lugging it is he? that make them egt's skyrocket at first, but nestle back down to something reasonable. Find out just how far down he went with starwheel, u may need to run it back up a ways. Also like i said, need to throw some timing at it. But that baby H1C is a big factor, id bet a better turbo, and BHAF will get things back to reasonable.

What trailer was he pulling? Has he bought a big enclosed on yet. I've got some 4.10 gears he can have. He'll still have plenty top end with NV4500.
