Hx-35 housing on HC1
Hey guys I picked up a blown Hx-35 for cheap I was thinking about rebuilding it but the compressor wheel has been scraping really bad and then I accidentally dropped it right on the turbine housing when taking it apart DOH ! So now I have been thinking about using the 12cm housing from the hx35 and using that instead of the 21cm lag master housing thats on my HC1 currently. The truck is an Auto and the hx35 housing is wastegated so i would have to make some sort of bracket to actually use it and modify the downpipe. So let me hear your thoughts. worth it or if its a waste of time?
Ok i did some reading as i should have in the first place. And looks like this is turning into a build thread. Heres the hx35 housing cleaned up a little bit. I noticed that the cast elbow doesnt quite match up to the housing so i spent some time with a dremel and cleaned it up . Will grinding it down make a significant difference ? Probably not but every bit counts i guess
The next big step is getting the old housing off the truck. I got the bolts holding the center section of the turbo out but the darn thing is seized in good and solid. I gave it a good liberal blast of nut cracker and some motivation with a hammer but so far no luck. I was hoping i could take the whole turbo off but with the center section of the turbo still in place the front two manifold bolt are almost impossible to stick a wrench on.
Update . The turbo is now out of the truck . All it took was some creative wrenching and a 230 pound gorilla known as yours truly reefing in the counter clockwise direction . If I have any advice it would be pull until your 100% sure something is gonna break and then pull a little harder that should do the trick

Today's Progress ; Got the old 21 cm housing off the h1c . It was stuck pretty good but the BFH changed that. Cleaned up everything somewhat and scraped the gasket off the drain side. I was worried that some material may have fallen into the turbo so i put some low pressure air on the oil feed port to hopefully clear it out. Bolted the new housing on the manifold and began tightening the center section in but it got to dark so ill leave that for tomorrow
Alrigthy guys all buttoned up . And wow talk about a difference in drive-ability the power comes on smooth right from idle as where before it was waiting waiting waiting and then you could feel it start to spool. For now just a short ghetto downpipe until i can find 4 inch mandrel bent tube somewhere. If anyone has questions or comments feel free to chime in.
I built my own 'shorty' outlet plate so I could keep my 4" DE downpipe.

I've since recycled the cast elbow into my 2wd Ramcharger project. I'm using a 4" downpipe for a 24-valve... and its going to fit decent.
