Default P Pump Long Block w/ VE Pump

Hey guys. I have a 91.5 VE 6bt in a W250. It developed a knock over a year ago and I just drove it. I couldn't find out what it was until about a month ago.

Here is a video of it before tear down.

I know I need to swap out injectors from the 1st gen but one question I have is about the cam. Will the P-pump cam be ok running a VE engine? I had planned on putting the VE cam in the P pump long block but I was going to see if I might get any power gains or bad side effects of the P Pump cam in the VE.

Thanks

I'm not sure. The W250 was rough when I bought it and it didn't have a gauge cluster. The previous owner estimate 275-350K.

I guess I will just use the VE cam out of that engine. I'm not sure if I should worry about swapping the lifters out of both engines as well keeping them with their respective cam. Another question I was thinking about was should I do a timing tooth advance. My pump was pulled completely to the head. I am worried about longevity and wear on an engine with advanced timing. Seems like the too early of detonation could cause some problems.

I took it out last night to start swapping stuff over to the other engine.

Any other recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

cam and lifters should be kept as a match set dont miss match. is there no budget for a new cam and lifters? 300k on internals and your tore down this far anyways.

I wouldn't even know where to price one. I saw performace cam prices and that is definately out of the budget.

the cams are the same. one thing that is different tho and you will need to address is the piston bowls are different from your non IC VE to the ppump engine. you will need to use the injectors that are in the ppump engine but have them changed to VE pop pressure. if you use the ve injector with the ppump piston it will be similar to running 370 marine injectors. the bowl in the non ic ve engine is bigger and very similar to the marine bowls.

My truck is intercooled so luckily I won't have that problem.

I swapped everything over this weekend. I ended up reusing the P Pump cam for the simple fact that I didn't want to remove all the tappets. The P pump cam and VE pump cam had the same size exhaust lobe but the intake lobe was about 0.015-0.020" smaller on the P pump cam.
