If you already have a built trans a simple switch will take care of keeping the TC locked towing (note you will have to unlock it to downshift without extensive VB mods) and racing. If you have abillet input your in good shape unless you want to do 20 psi plus boosted launches.

For lockup control in normal driving the only one I know of that actually had this working on the 47RE's was ATS with their commander product. You could set minimum lockup speed and tell it lock on shifts also, but, it required extensive mods to the VB to make it work.

All the rest of the controllers seem to be centered around keeping the TC locked on decel not accel. You would have to call them and figure out they would work that way and what would be needed.

The cost of that can get high, a high efficiency TC with a low stall is an easier resolution at times.

Yeah, the switch still seems like the best idea to me at this point. I just don't know if that is me being cheap and not wanting to spend the money on a controller or what. I just really don't want to shoot myself in the foot, ya know?

I believe the TS Performance controller mentioned earlier will control lockup on accel as well as decel. If it were my truck though, I would just go with a switch. The one I have in my truck allows me to lock or unlock the TC and also has a red and green led to let me know I have it either locked or unlocked respectively.

I believe you are correct. This is taken from Thoroughbread's website:

"The TS Performance Torque Converter Lock-UP allows you to lock and un-lock your torque converter at the speed of your choice. Most factory converters lock up at high speeds, and un-lock when off the throttle. This can cause increased temperatures due to friction between the converter and flywheel. It will also inhibit vehicle performance and fuel economy lock at high speeds.
The converter can work in conjunction with an exhaust brake to help slow the engine speeds instead of relying completely on the brakes to slow the truck. By programming the converter to un-lock at a low speed it will help to stop the truck.

By allowing the operator to choose the speed the converter locks and un-locks results in:

Improved Fuel Economy
Programmable un-locking speed
Programmable locking speed
Improved acceleration
Reduce overheating and wear of brakes.
Reduce operating temperatures of the transmission and torque converter

Example of setting up the tool: You adjust the TCC loc- up while driving the truck. Drive the truck to 30 MPH and hit the up arrow to set the lock-up speed, then slow down to 15 MPH and hit the bottom arrow to set your unlock speed at 15 MPH. When you start out from now on as soon as the truck hits 30 MPH the converter will lock and will remain locked until the speed drops down to or below 15 MPH. The unlock speed can be set as low as 5 MPH.

Installation is cutting the TCC lockup wire and splice in, and putting a few T-Taps inline (VSS). Not for the electronically challenged. This is not simple plug and play. You don't need to be an electronic engineer...but if your afraid of cutting a wire you should contact us for installation.

Capable of reading and displaying transmission temps. Sending unit or probe is NOT included. Any standard electronic sending unit from Autometer (or similar) will hook to the included temp probe wire that comes off of the TS wire harness.

Has an ON/OFF function.

Sets up one of two ways. "ON" each time you start the truck, or..... "OFF" each time you start the truck. Manual control can over-ride settings, if it is set to "ON" each time you start the truck, you may simply hit the manual "OFF" button to power the unit down."

The downside is the price at $360....

Yeah, the problem with that is one 30 moh to get lockup, and two once the TC locks it will stack shift the trans into OD without other mods. The other question, not sure if this one addesses it, is a lot of these controllers unlock the TC at WOT.

For me its the efficacy of the $$. I believe spending that extra money on a better converter is the way to go for better over all fit, but thats me and the way I drive\use my truck. Somebody else may have an entirely different view.

Oh I would be so pissed if I spent $360 on a controller and it unlocked at WOT.
