phat shaft 62 vs factory turbo = big difference in mpg?
recently had a new long block and injectors installed.
using the trucks computer to measure MPG: current: 17 prior to new setup: 23 only difference is, i'm now running the factory turbo and i was running a phat shaft 62 before. can a turbo make that much of a difference? |
u were getting 23 before the new long block? and 17 after the long block and turbo? if so, how many miles is on the long block? have u checked ur fuel to ensure the injectors arent leaking?
id hand calculate ur milage, with performance upgrades, the lie-o-meters get farther and farther off. |

17 with new long block, new injectors, and factory turbo. less than 1,000 miles on new block and injectors. this weekend i installed a new intake horn, cai, and changed the oil. didn't notice anything leaking around the motor and the oil looked normal. |
my guess is the motor just isnt broke in yet. give it a couple thousand, hand calculate ur milage and see how it comes out :tu: and yes a turbo that size wil help milage some also.
|
cool, i'll top it off today and see how it goes.
looking forward to getting that phat shaft back in the truck! |
I wouldn't consider it "broke in" until after it passes at least 30k.
|
how long would you wait to put the phat shaft 62 on?
|
I don't think the turbo has anything to do with break-in. As long as you have the fuel to spool it, I'd put it on and drive it balls out with a 5ton trailer behind it for a few months. That should help it get started to break in.
|
u can throw the turbo back on any time ya want. once ya got around a 1000 miles on it, id change the oil for the first time, and put fresh oil and filter on it. then go to the 5k interval. but thats just me.
|
^ I would do it at 500 miles personally but you want to change it somewhere in that area for sure.
