Default 06-07 trucks w/ bigger turbos and downloader beware.....

Apparently there is an issue while running bigger turbos along with pretty much any downloader. Somehow the computer senses low boost and sets a P0299 code which defuels the engine at 12-15psi pretty much putting the truck in limp mode. You can shut the truck down and clear the codes and it returns to normal. Unfortunately it may not stay that way for long. Mine has done this more and more frequently to the point where I had to pull the Predator downloader off the truck and try to figure this out. It happens with any kind of downloader but, of course, does not affect every truck. Mine just happens to be one of them. The Turbo and downloader mfrs are aware of the issue but nobody knows how to make it stop. This does not seem to happen on trucks with stock turbos.
I'm pretty bummed because I love the Predator but I just can't take the issue any longer...

Just thought I'd put this out there. Maybe someone has some insight.......

Mine sets the code now and again, but I don't ever notice any defueling. Maybe I am just way over fueled!

Well, I had it happen again this morning and I don't even have the Predator on the truck. I've driven the truck since October with this turbo and never saw this issue until installing the Predator and the Quadzilla Boost Fooler. I am inclined to believe that the Boost Fooler is bad or my truck's computer is just not liking some of the signals it is sending out. The Boost Fooler has come off the truck for now and I will see if I continue to have this issue. The next step is to pull the turbo off..........

I pulled the boost fooler off the truck and on the way home today I hit 40+ psi three times with no CELs or codes. Apparently the resistor I put in the factory wastegate plug is boost fooling. I'm hoping that my issues were caused by having the resistor and the Quad boost fooler both doing the same thing. We'll see in a couple of days.....

Threw an overboost code today after installing the Predator back on the truck. I guess I do need a boost fooler afterall!! At least the truck kept running just fine this time......

That would be my guess.

It sure sucks when it happens.

For an update, I have a new boost fooler thanks to Qzilla and everything seems fine so far. It has been on for three days with zero issues. The original fooler lasted about a month before it started throwing codes and in the end it was happening at least once a day..
We'll see.....
