At a minimum you'll need a TQ and VB that will hold for a long time if you control your foot as in NO power launches! I've been quite brutal with mine with just those mods and still no slip. Only issue I had was band adjustment " It better be right" These trannies with a few mods are quite sturdy but in stock form it's easy to smoke the clutches!
sorry to get off track but who do you recomend for a vb and TQ?
the transmisson he has is upgraded from stock. has a triple disc converter but idk what else

If you have the 48re trans, you shouldn't have any issues with the smarty jr. The 48re is good for around 800 lb torque. I've booted mine lots and still okay.

I have a fully billlet trans, and my new one is being built, and i'm barely pushing over 500 now to the wheels, nothing is bullet proof or will hold up to a set amount of hp/ft-lbs it is all in the luck of the draw

Yep. Anything mechanical can break. Especially when it's as complicated as our trans! I'm actually taking mine back in to get some adjustments done on it... *shrug* just the way it is! You have to pay to play and be okay with breaking things. That's just the way it is.

My dad did 417 and 850 with a smarty sr on 5 and the sub settings were set on 3 with a stock tranny. And his truck did 391 and 760 on setting 3 with no setting cranked up. Not suggesting that thats ok

If your running high hp and torque, you need the right tranny upgrade and you'll have no problems. Look at the hp and torque the trucks have that sled pull and race. I think ats is one that handles over 1500l ft lbs and has an excellent warranty. I think most of us are not going to have that kind of power, so I imagine such a tranny would last a long time. Do it right the first time and you'll have far less problems or take you your foot off the pedal.

I can't imagime why anyone would want more than the Jr. Just crazy, I guess. I have not put my Jr. higher than L2 (yet) and the truck scares me.

It also scares small children and animals nearby with the Aero turbine muff.
