Default How to make my truck BOMBER!

Ok, that was a little extreme, but at least I got your attention. I really do want to make my truck bomber... bomber-proof. So, I'd like to see the truck with a few more horses, but want more reliability than anything. I have to tow my race car for up to 2K miles sometime so a firebreathing, smokethrowing monster may not be the best laid plans (although it would be awesome!). With this in mind... I have '06 Dodge 3500, 4x4, 6spd. I'm quickly getting the diesel bug but am still trying to focus on the race car and get her to a point of "completion." After that though... I dunno. There is an Air Raid intake already on there which I understand is pretty decent. My brother, who runs a 500+ hp Dodge dually recommended that I get a Smart Jr and do a cat delete (and muffler delete if I didn't mind the sound). My experience with the Subaru is that anything after the turbo doesn't matter much for back pressure and a retune isn't that necessary. Agree? That would be a pretty cheap upgrade in my books to just weld in some straight pipe. That's how I run the racecar... but that thing literally breathes fire out the back.

So for engine performance, do you all think that a Smarty Jr and "straight pipe" would be pretty good along with my already installed air raid?

Moving on.

The next spot I'd like to hit is suspension. The 3500 is satisfyingly stiff in that the spring rates (not sure if that's how you refer to it in truck world) seems pretty good stock. I don't really want to lift it, but if I did it would be very minimal. I was just thinking of upgrading the dampers to Bilsteins. I'd like to hear opinions on that. I do like to go offroading every once in a while, but I don't need to race and take jumps, I have the car for that.

Other than that... cosmetically, I'll most likely upgrade the bumpers for something more serious. A winch is something I'll need, not to get the truck out from being stuck, but to get the car off the tree I wrapped around. Not sure which but it'll be more function than looks.

I think after that... gears. That's the weakest part I feel after doing upgrades. Can you do a dog box in these things or will they just get destroyed?

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the help in advance.
