What Won't Void My Warranty?

I was in today for service and asked the service manager, and they dont like anything performance related, that seems to be the trend with the dealerships I deal with.
I did however ask if guages (outlook moniter, etc) are okay, and they think its a good Idea.
So I marched out to the parking lot and removed my Edge EZ module before it went in.
Thanks for all the info and tips folks

well nate is dead on with this. there are many times where your dealer will ok a repair only to have their zone service manager audit the claim and then debit them back the cost. this usually happens with a new ZSM that is trying to make a name for themself, but not always the case. it seems that dodge is alot tougher on aftermarket stuff than other manufacturers. gm was always pretty lenient.
but you should educate yourself a bit on your rights. the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) is your main recourse for any disputes. here is a synopsis of that:
“No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumers using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name...†(15 U.S.C. 2302(C))."
and a wikipedia link HERE READ IT!!
basically this puts the burden of proof on the manufacturer. if they deem that your aftermarket part caused the failure they have to prove it. but don't get cocky here. their engineers and product specialists carrying alot of credibility in a courtroom setting should it come to that so you're not guaranteed a victory should you pursue a battle. i would guess that should you ever encounter this, you would want to get the aftermarket manufacturer on your side rather quickly. their product specialists might carry some pretty heavy weight should you need it.

You want to play, You may need to Pay.
Be smart with your mods and be smarter with how you use them on the truck and you will be fine. I have had a TST-R49 on my 2004.5 truck since almost new. It helped with mileage and power. I could most likely ruin my stock turbo or tranny if I set it to high and then attempted to drag race, boost launch or anything similar. If you are truly looking to gain mileage then most of the add-on boxes will help. If you want ot do any of the Fun/Abusive things then you will need to PAY to prepare your truck to take that kind of use. Drive the truck sensibly with the mods and do proper maintenance on the truck and hopefully it will outlast us all without ever needing a trip to the dealer. I am going on 4 years and have never had my truck back to the dealer and do not plan to.. I have had to go to the dealer for gaskets, filters and windows switches but do not plan on needing the dealer to ever touch the truck. 78k and still pulling strong.
Enjoy the truck they are awesome!!

I installed boost, EGT, F/P and R/P gauges, had the fuel tank recall so into the dealer I go, the questioned my gauges with relativity to some performance box/chip - I was bone stock at that point except for the gauges. I told them that DC should have put gauges in right from the factory, I tow-gauges are a must. The 3rd injection event creates a temp situation that does require monitoring as far as I am concerned, no further anything out of my dealership, in fact they did agree.
I changed my intake, more air needed at elevation I live/drive in. I have been doing oil sampling at all oil changes. I did not like the silicone levels with the stock air intake. Change my intake and my silicone level dropped. Have testing to prove that my new intake does a better job at filtration over the stock filtration.
I installed the ME pipe, left the CAT as it is really the warranty argument, and the CAT is a fed requirement. Dealer says - altering the muffler voids the warranty, I said WELL maybe the muffler warranty, how can you warranty something that is not there? They chewed on it and did agree that the remainder of the factory system was still there so it did have a warranty.
I think it is all about how something is communicated, interpretated, and so on. If you are reasonable, they are too. Talk out the stupid stuff that makes the hurdles. I added oil bypass filtration, is better? YES, good for me and them. I added the 2-micron fuel filtration, is better? YES, good for me and them. It's all about why you have done something, if better, there should be no argument.
Performance enhancements can be used for better fuel mileage or they can be used for racing, pulling, etc. If you are using them and creating abuse beyond normal then you SHOULD BE your own warranty. Otherwise, a dealer should take the enhancement for what it's worth and why it was used. They can check and read out lots of stuff that would tell them how you used your enhancement. They can get around even the least footprint left behind and see something was there if they want to go to that distance.
Like what has been said before me here, be smart with your mods, buy quality and you will get better results from the products and probably not cause any problems. Keep your maintenance up in a timely manner, this alone will probably save you a lot of grief and repairs down line.

a free flowing exhaust and MAYBE an air filter would be the only thing I would put on a truck anymore. Warranties are to nice to have, and any extra power you put to your truck is less reliable it will be, and will not last as long. I will probably be flamed for this post, but after years of fighting the world in the other direction, I've given in. They designed every part of that truck to work with the rest of it correctly, and when you up one component, ten others will suffer greater fatigue.

Stacks
Im interested in letting my 5.9 breath a little better with maybe an intake and an exhaust. My big question is i eventually want a set of stacks on it I am trying to determine if stacks will void my cummins 5 yr 100,000 warranty the bumber to bumper is up. So im trying to determine whether i buy a cheaper free flow exhaust for now and when my warranty is up put stacks on it unless i can just do it in the first place with out worrying about my warranty.
Thanks for any help guys
