Default how to put a 351 turbo on a 5.9 cummins

i have looked at alot of forums and spent alot of time reading repeat stuff. i have a 2001.5 ho 5.9 cummins. i want to know everything i will need to put a 351 turbo on my truck.(this turbo is the stock cummins 6.7 turbo) i need a stand alone controller. fleece is the only people i know that has one. if anyone has pictures or vedio of them putting it together that would be great im just after a list of things i got to make/ buy and if you know of any other stand alone controlers for the turbo.

I just finished my swap and now I am tuning my controller. Thats the hardest part. No one else makes a controller for this swap. Why are you looking at this swap? Do you want to run a 6.7 manifold or use your stock one? What all do you have done to your truck already?

moter wise: i have 150 gph airdog with quadzilla adrinaline w/ pulse v2 for my programer.
i have a four inch down pipe with a home made 4 to 8 inch pipe reducer all 8" pipe under the truck with a 9" single stack. i can do alot of home made stuff and got a little money as well i just need to know what to use.
i dont know about the manafold witch would be better to use?
i want the turbo for the low end spool i want to have instant boost my truck now is stock hx35 and is like on and off switch with the power after about 2000 rpm it just lights up before its a dog with tons of smoke.

i also have a 3" body lift that gives me 3" more room with the shock tower

How the heck did you get 8" pipe past the trans from the DP to the stack? Doesnt seem like there would be enough room between the trans and frame...

Secondly, why 8" exhaust to a 9" stack? Seems a little overboard. Lets see some pics!

There are pieces out there for both. If you use a 6.7 manifold you will have to get a 6.7 downpipe, a 6.7 oil drain, and make a intercooler pipe. I made mine by using both a 6.7 intercooler pipe and my stock pipe. Fit really nice. I also used the 6.7 air intake pipes. Now I know there is adapters out there to bolt the turbo to a stock 24v exhaust clamp. From what I have seen you can use the stock air intake pieces and the stock intercooler pieces. The fab work will be the downpipe and the oil drain. Now dont start thinking that as soon as you hook this up you are set. The controller comes with no map on it. You get the software from Fleece or someone that has it, you load the software, and you start messing with the controller map. It will probably take awhile and alot of seat time before you have the controller mapped how you like it. Every truck is different so Fleece cant load a map on there and expect it to work on every truck.

wow i am glad you said something about the programer. anyways so i am thinking stock manifold off my 5.9. if i do that i can make a flanged addapter for the flang. will my stock intercooler elbo clamp right up to it? will i have any problems with the shock tower hitting the 351? it seems like the 351 is physicaly larger than my hx35. i wil have to addapet the back side of the turbno to use my 5.9 down pipe correct?

the exhaust fits but barly remeber i got a 3 inch body lift that makes for that much mor room. the 8inch would be too much if it were not for the elbow. the restriction of the 8 inch elbow is the same restiction of 4 inch straight pipe inch per inch. so it is like runnning 4 ich straight weere the elbow is.(thats great flow!) i have little back presure but i still have some and the truck sounds great. the nine ich crome stack is just the fist large stack i coul find for 80$$ i got a steal i only payed 110$ for the exhaust materials. i got most material for a great price were i work at!! i figured why not!

I dont know about the stock clamping right up. If you go to Cumminsforum and search for VGT setup, post those questions in there. I set mine up with all 6.7 parts. There used to be a thread on here about VGT setups but it hasnt been posted in for awhile. Dont worry about your thread being moved. The moderators moved it because the subject matter will get better exposure in a different area. Also, using the 351ve in a twin setup is possible. Or you could run a he451ve. Bigger turbo, more boost, still can be used with the fleece controller, and can save alot of money when compared to building a twin setup.

I found my 6.7 parts on ebay. Oil drain at got at a Dodge dealership. Probably have $1100 in it. $300 for turbo, $100 for exhaust manifold, $100 for downpipe, $500 for controller, and then whatever misc stuff I got like intercooler boots, clamps, fittings, and hoses.

Now if you are not worried about keeping the exhaust brake you could always ditch the electronics and work the vanes with an actuator or wastegate or something. More fab time but half the money.

wow that manifold goes straight down... with mine it goes at like a 30 degree angle down. that turbo would sit up so talll. and i dont need the exhaust brake but i still want the vains to open and close like if it were stock on the truck. how would you controll the vains with any of the lised above to open and close like that?
