banks exhaust brake
Forum noob, & proud owner of a 98.5 3500 4x4 quad cab 24v 5spd as of 5/4/12.
Engine has an exhaust brake, but it is disconnected. A hole under the steering column had a toggle switch, still has a tag for Banks Brake.
With 211,000 miles on the odometer, I'm curious about hooking it back up. Truck appears 100% stock except for the exhaust brake. I LOVE the control a brake provides, having racked up over 1 million miles in a "large car".
After browsing forums, I will be taking the truck in for a valve adjustment, as it's doubtful that it has ever had one. Body is nearly flawless, but lots of little mechanical issues to still deal with.
I had the lift pump replaced before I brought it home.
I'm considering adding a poker smoke / pukerslax (power stroke / duramax) taunt to the tailgate - "REAL diesels have 6 cylinders".
Off to research smarty / edge, etc.
