Default VP 44 tap probs

I'm trying to tap my 01 vp 44 with my edge comp. I thought I had it tapped and took it for a test drive. It didnt seem to have much more power, so I was under the hood messing around with the wires to the pump to make sure I had power and evidently the other wire on the pump was frayed and it shorted out. Now the truck wont start. I checked the fuses but didnt find any blown. What do I check next?

I would probably guess you fried the computer in your VP44.

You just ruined a 989.00 pump sounds like. If the wires break the pump has to come off and you can try and resolder them. If they shorted the pump is 99% most likely headed to the rebuilder.

Nooo. Really? Is there any way to test it?

The wires are not broke. Just skinned I guess.

You could pin out and verify the pump is getting required voltages, I've posted the connector pin out somewhere.
You could standalone the pump and see if the truck runs. Otherwise if no the vp has power the pump is done. Hate it for ya man.

I put a test light on both the wires to the pump where I tapped it and the other one beside it and there is no juice going to either one

There shouldn't be and if you did it with the key on you could have fried it with the test light, you would only want to test the vp connector not the solenoid wires.

If the wires are not shorted now and the truck will not run then you have ruined the pump.

Test lights are for brake lights. They pull too much power for most electronic circuits, and do more damage then good. Always use a multi-meter with at least 1 Million Ohms of impedance.

A stealth plate would have prevented this situation.
