Default Pusher Pump On A 12Valve???

other than AirDog and Fass what are you guys or what have you seen people run on 12 valves as a pusher pump? i believe i'm at my max volume from the stock 1996 mechanical lift pump (the one that came in the truck in 1996 so it's 12 years old now) and was wandering if anyone has used a Holley Blue or equivilant BEFORE the factory lift pump to help boost it's efficiency and what are ya'll results with whatever setup ya'll have ran before?

i'm just assuming that if i can get a solid 12-14 pounds before the mechanical pump that i'd be ahead of the game as it wouldn't have to work so hard..... also in theory would that raise my current fuel pressure any? in the theory in my head it should but i want someone who has done it say yay or nay.....

thanx in advance guys,

Benjamin

The stock pump is good for 600 horse or so....youre not there are you?

Why not just put in a fresh one? Most people will tell you that the Hollys dont last very long with diesel. FYI, Eric at Vulcan Performance can make you a big line kit for a 12V.

um no i'm not there yet.... i might get a fresh lift pump to put in there but i might be able to gain access to a used blue if there is any benifit with it.

i've heard some people say that about blues and i've heard people of running them for a long time. i know a black won't last as long as it's not really designed to be used for extended periods of time as is the blue or the red.....

it just seems to me that i'm running out of fuel on the big end... like between 2600 and 2800 rpm.... it could be because i'm undervalved and flow (or lack there of) is taking over......

The Blue has been used with mixed results as you said, the Black is the one that most everybody goes to when they throw the blue away and it works pretty good. It's rated for Alcohol so our Diesel is no problem for it. The problem is that the black is just a might expensive for what your gettin. If your gonna spend that much money you can get better pumps.

Nobody seems to be beileiving me when I say it but I'm lovin this belt drive pump. I can set the pressure to what ever psi I want and as the RPM's go up so does the flow so don't have to run the high psi for idle. I have it set to idle at 12psi and full throttle goes up to 17psi.

cool. but remember this is on a 12 valver that requires more than that psi wise..... what will that one put out max? will it supply a 12valve with enough fuel?

They are rated for over 1200hp. If you need that much extra fuel they just send a bigger pulley with the system that turns the pump on a 1 to 1 ratio. I'm using a 1 to 2 ratio on mne and I know when I first hooked it up I was pushin 30psi at idle with the inline regulator in place letting some through. It uses an in line regulator to return excess fuel back to the tank. had to add a few more spacers in there to get it down to my pressure levels. This was developed by Opie and a few other drag racers and used to be known as the RASP, they have been workin on the design for years and the new model is the MITUSA pump that has all the updates included. Been flawless so far and nothin to break except a belt that takes 5 minutes to replace when you do the main serpantine belt.

oh ok. i know a p pump needs like 35-45psi IIRC so something like that may be the ticket. how and where does it attach to the motor? where does the drive pully attach? to the crank somewhere?

The drive pulley attaches to the crank and the pump attaches to a couple of bolts on the oil pan. Just pull the bolts put the pump on with the bracket that comes with it and re-install the longer bolts back into the pan that also come with the kit.

Just an opinion, but the factory pickup is probably the source of fueling issues if that's the case.

The stock modules are very restrictive. While the years are different, the lift pump is the same as yours. My '02 went from 22 psi WOT with the factory module to 37 psi WOT with the Draw Straw.

I have 42-45 psi at idle and cruise is 40 psi. This is a VP truck with the 12V mechanical pump.

My point is, you may be pulling a vacuum from the module. And a pump in line just adds complexity and may or may not help. If you haven't put in a draw tube of some sort, I highly recommend it.

The belt drive pumps are a nice way to go as well. To me, it's more of an occasinal, race use part. But that's just because of the reliability factor I require.
