Default hidden push button ignition write up

Alright guys finally got it done yesterday, and everything went pretty smooth with no hitches or kinks.

Doing yours like how i did mine disabled using the key to crank the engine but you still need the keys to turn the ignition to the on position to turn on the computer and acc.

Things you'll need...
A momentary switch (i chose to get a sealed push button, nothing fancy since i'm making it hidden)

16g wire (I got two rolls different colors for ease of wire tracing in the future)

pack of 16g butt connectors (I got the heat shrink style because i prefer them over traditional style)

pack of 16g crimp eyelets (again heat shrink, and get a size that matches the poles on the back of the switch)

all of these can be found at any of your trusty auto part stores, total cost was around 20 bucks with supplies left over afterwards.

Tools needed

Test light

wire crimpers and cutters

phillips and torx screw drivers

First step is to remove the kick panel under the steering (this is not needed but i chose to take it off to make routing wires easier). There are 3 phillips head screws that are on the bottom that you remove and then just pull out and it'll pop loose.

Second step is to remove the covers on the lower end of the steering where your ignition is located, all together there is 5 screws holding both panels together all are a #20 torx.

Once you have removed those you now have access to the wiring going to your ignition. on the bottom side locate the yellow wire. This is the wire you'll be tapping into. Cut the wire far enough back that you will be able to revert back to normal setup if you wish in the future and either tape off or do what i did and put a butt connector on the wire coming off the harness.

Now take the wire running to the fire wall and put a butt connector on with a short length of wire for now.

This is what you should have at this point.

Now go to your fuse panel located on the drivers side on the left side of the dash and find a fuse that only recieves power when the key is on, i chose the fuse for the cig lighter. Now the proper way to do this is to use an add a fuse which you can get from an auto parts store, but i forgot to pick one up and will be getting one soon, for now i just stripped some insulation off the end off the wire and push it in with the fuse. This will be your power to one end of the switch. For now just use a 12in length of wire.

Now take both your wires and put crimp eyelet connectors on them and connect them to your switch. You dont have to do this step but I did just to make sure everything worked before i ran all the wires.

This is what you should see once you have both wires connected to your switch. Now turn the key on and when the wait to start light goes out hit the switch and see if your truck starts. If it did awesome, if it didn't double check your wiring and connections.

Once you know it works now you can start finishing up. for this step i suggest just running the full length of your wire and cutting to length once you know where you want it. Run the wire from the yellow wire down to the firewall so once you put the panels back on around the ignition it will be hidden and run the wire from your fuse panel through the kick panel back to the firewall.

I ran mine below the carpeting to where i was mounting the switch.

After you have the switch mounted where you want cut your wires to length and put a eyelet connector on both wires to connect to your switch.

If you choose to seal the connectors use a lighter or hobby torch to lightly heat the connectors to shrink the covers making a weather tight connection.

Connect to your switch and button everything back up and now your done!

Now before anyone says where's the finished install pic i didn't take one because i made my switch hidden so that it isn't visable if someone tried to take off in my truck, but it doesn't affect install.

Now you no longer will use the key to crank the engine and the push button switch will be the way to start the truck.

Enjoy
