In Tank Fuel Module
Ok, so after being stranded a couple times (out of fuel, gauge reading 1/4 tank) i am going to swap out fuel module in tank. The Vulcan performance Modified Liberty Module has been recommened but, a friend of mine has the factory replacement module he bought and was unable to return and has never been used. This module has the in-tank pump in it. What do i need to do to make this work how it should. I have an airdog 100 Pump. I'm guessing i need the Vulcan Draw Straw V but what other mods do i need to make to it so the in tank pump isnt fighting me? Simple, safe way to disconnect other than the obvious and removing it?

just buy a draw straw and do it youself you will save alot of cash that way
|
so i need the Vulcan Draw Straw V with the 3/8" fitting to match my fuel line from the air dog or can i disconnect the in tank pump on the module and use the Vulcan Draw Straw I? i just need the module for the float to correct my guage. it is getting worse, i have 320 miles and it read 3/4 tank. Feel like im riding my old harley with no fuel gauge at all and stretching out my mileage. Kinda of sucks i have the HUD with my Miles to empty and i cant use it.

Make sure that when you put the Drawstraw in, to put the tank on a set of sawhorses to help alleviate the 1/4 tank issues.
Put the tank on the sawhorses where the tank straps are. The tank is probably sagging near where the intake is. |
i was planning on lifting the bed off with my tractor or overhead winch. if the tank is saggin, is it noticable while hanging from the straps?
|
It could be noticable, not sure though.
|
i'll have to call Eric at vulcan performance tomorrow to see which draw straw and fitting i need to order.

Pulling the box will leave the fuel tank in its natural resting position. I'll bet you they say to use the DSV. I have one, and its amazing. Using the DS2, depth matters. DSV does not as the fuel module spring hold the suction point down.

If you already have a pump in your tank you can modify that basket VERY EASILY, and make a custom draw tube like I did... all you need to do is remove the old pump and run 3/8th line down to the inlet on the screen. I used some extra 1/2" line I had leftover from my Raptor pump, tweaked it a bit and got it to work, but the fittings on both ends of that basket are made for 3/8" line... heres a picture of how I did mine........

ahhh, 10hrs too late, ordered the Draw Straw V this morning. Thats ok though, i talked to the guy at vulcan and he told me how to reroute my airdog return line to the vent on the pickup.

EggosBrother,
I did something very similar. Here is the link to my thread, hope it helps paint the picture. oudive |
the pics aren't showing up but from what you posted, that is exactly what i'm planning on doin. Just to be clear, you removed the pump from the canister?
|
EggosBrother,
Sorry bout that. I am not sure why, I just clinked on the link and they popped up. Maybe slowdownload...who knows. I pulled the entire thing apart and it was good that I did as getthing the pump out involved some patience, a lot of cursing and walking away from it for about 15 minutes.....LOL. oudive |
Hey Oudive, what was your fuel pressure behaving like before you did this kit? I think I'm getting air by mine, but the only reason I didn't order a kit is because I was in a bind for time. Guess I'll be dropping my tank again soon :argh:

empty wallet,
Digging the screen name cause that describes me all day long...LMAO. Anyways, my fuel pressure was like 19/18, after the mod it actually went up to 21 at idle. I just had issues with how I did mine from the get go with the regular drawstraw. I then got a DS that went into the module and it only had 2 ports. I think they now come with three as it seems that the AD return is better suited for the module as opposed to the fill neck. I am very happy with my setup. I am at less than a 1/4 tank and just made a run for some copenhagen. Not issuse with tank slosh like before. I think this is a more solid setup for sure. oudive |
