Default How do u check for a program???

I have a motor (98.5 VPed) out of a wreck and have got it setup getting ready to put it in place of a 7.3 Iv finished roughing out the wiring and got it started on the weekend and am having trouble with it not wanting to start and then when it does it smokes like its a gasser with shot rings.

First problem: Ive found if I turn the ignition on but wait 30 seconds it will fire right up but idles crap. Any less than 30 and it wont start just cranks.

Second problem: Once it starts it smokes. for a stock motor it seams excessive. Im just wondering if the previous owner put a program in it and it didnt get removed before it was sold.
How can I tell??

I did have it running in the dodge chassis, but not long enough to smoke the shed out. It seamed to run ok. And I didnt have a dodge scan tool to check for DTC.
Because it idles crap until its warmed up and it smokes alot. Have I cut a wrong wire out or have I got a clapped out motor.( it was supposed to have only 140,000 Kms Canada truck) Or a tune is still in it??????

Im using a fordcummins.com kit
O just remembered it dosnt have a Gearbox behind it yet, would that make a difference.

Only way to tell if there is a programmer in it, that I know of, is trying to load a different program into it.
It almost sounds like there is an air restriction for all that smoke at idle. Gearbox shouldn't make any difference, easier on the engine if anything.

Ive had it with no intake on the inlet manifold and then with the whole air side of things hooked up ( turbo to I/C to motor) Ive even made a larger intake housing to clear the Banks ram air box for the F250. The other thought Ive had could it be that the motor has sat around for some time and it has glazed up cyl's or the fuel is old that is in the setup chassis Im using?? I did change the fuel filter, oil and oil filter before I started it.
Or maybe I wait until its in the vehicle and everything is hooked up and see how that goes. I will be hooking a quad V2 up to it once I have it set up. The data plug still has the blanking cap on it also.
Just hoping I havent ended up with a clapped out motor.....
