Default Towing on "fuel mileage" setting?

Just curious why your not supposed to tow on the fuel mileage settings? I was thinking that as long as the exhaust dosn't get too hot it would be fine? I normally do retune my truck, but I'm just going to be picking up a trailer and bringing it home(empty), and I just don't feel like messing with it. What are the actuall negatives to towing on the fuel mileage setting?

If you are talking about the smarty,it increases the timing when you use that setting. Towing heavy could put to much timing in the injection pump.

I dont know much about smarty's, but we tow heavy with our edge COMP all the way up on level 5 all the time, maybe the smarty adds more timing?

When towing "light", empty or less than 3,000 lbs I leave mine on 'fuel mileage', which is rare for me. When I do tow heavy 3,000+ , I put my SMARTY on 9 and go from there. The SMARTY does increase the timimng significantly for fuel mileage. I have to be careful about timing because of the propane also.

I normally run mine on 5 when I tow the tractors, I have used 9 before but it could plenty warm on the exhaust side. I'm just really curious as to why all the tuners and boxes that I've looked at said not to tow on the fuel mileage setting? Does the added timing on the econ. settings increase the cylinder pressures to the point of putting the head gasket at risk?

I have towed around 3,000 lbs 4wheelers and dirt bikes with my edge juice on fuel economy and I didn't have a problem at all... just my 2 cents..
