Default Convert to a p pump?

My fuel pump is going out and I'm tryin to find out what my options are other than puttin another vp44 in. I heard p pump conversions make some monster power, but I just don't know that much about them. If I do that, will I have to take my chip off? (That wouldn't bother me at all.) What do you guys think? Are there any modded vp44s that anyone would recommend?

Yes if you swap a p-pump on your truck, you wont be able to use any chips or programmers since it is all mechanical. I would do the p-pump swap if you had the money and the time.

a p pump swap will run you about 4k depending on the pump and parts. they make easier and cheaper power then the vp's and can handle more peak power. it is pretty intensive and will take a couple days. just did one on a buddies truck this weekend actually. or you could go with a hot rod vp of some type. bd, blue chip, industrial injection, etc. i would highly reccomend getting an aftermarket lift pump like fass or airdog before a new pump or at the same time.

the p-pump swamp is very technical, and involves tearing the whole front of you truck off, and the front of your motor. so the real question is, what do u use ur truck for? if u daily drive it, i would keep the vp44, it will be cheaper to replace than doing the p-pump swap. and like stated already, if u swap to a p-pump, u will loose all your in cab tuning. only way to adjust power, is getting into the pump and changing some things

My p pump swap ran about 2k and i didnt think it was that diffucult, once i figured out the throttle (thanks ed) it was all gravy. But if your mostly gonna be using your truck for DD, i wouldnt bother just run a sovp44 and youll b good to go.i prefer not to have all the electronic s**t tuning and stuff, i feel better knowing that i tuned my truck and it was tuned my a computer, IMO. dont waster your money on a hrvp44 i went through two of them and the sovp44 lasted longer than the hrvp... i ran a lighting from scheid for a week out of a buddies truck before i did my pump and that thing is serious....

another possible downside is you'll have the same old 12v hard cold starts. i haven't heard it mentioned much, but you lose all the electronic timing. i've seen some vids where the 12v just cranks and chugges and dies.

That is very true the dynamic timing on a 24V is much better in the cold. Plus, you have the automatic high idle and also the 3 cylinder idle. All good things in the cold.

Not to hijack, but what if the VP went out of my truck. Eventually I want to do a P-pump swap down the road to make a lot of power out of it and possibly pull it, but i would still use it as a daily driver until then.
Would you still go with an aftermarket VP or would you go with the P-pump swap?
