Starting out
I now own a 2000 cummins 3/4 ton a/t 4x4 with 178k miles. I know it's an old truck but it has always been a dream for me to own one. My first project will be having installed a FASS in ole boy from the git go. what should my next option be to build HP. Please keep in mind I am a DAV, so that means a fixed income. I thought about a new harmonic balancer then maybe in a while electric fans. Another question I would like to ask can you change the thermostat so the engine runs cooler. I have always ran Chevys (gas 5.7) in the past, besides driving alot of John Deere's on the farm. Oh and can a cowl induction hood be put on a Cummins truck. I hope these questions aren't stupid, like I said this is my first diesel truck. Could never afford one on Navy pay, thanks for any help you all can provide.

Tranny type?
I am new to Dodges, so how does one determine what type of A/T I have in my 2000 Dodge 2500 4x4 Quad. 3.55 rears the a/t is a 4 speed. I know, well it was my understanding, the weakest link in this truck is the a/t. I was told he would be aright up to 400hp max. I want to say that it kind of looks like and old 727 torque flight I had in a 1970 charger but that was years ago and my mind might be playing tricks on me. What should a man do for an upgrade? I priced some of these new trannys and dang near got the same sticker shock when I priced a new truck. Hence the 2000 and not the 2010. I have noticed that the fuel mileage in the 2K Dodge sucks compared to my old 6.2 chev Surburban but you cannot compare apples to oranges. I have had to replace the APPS on the dodge and what a difference, atleast I could tell.

Your transmission is a 47RE - very similar to the Torqueflight I believe. 400 hp will damage your auto transmission. They take maybe 75 hp more than stock. But it depends on how you drive it. A valve body is around 400 or 500 and a triple disk performance torque converter is $1000+. from mild to wild the skys the limit. I know a couple of guys with $10 000 transmissions.
Fritz's Dodge Ram Tech has all kind of info regarding specs and such about your truck.

Just a thought hee, You say 400 hp is to much for the A/T. Does that mean if I stomp it alot it will fly apart(had that happen) or just start slipping real bad. If slipping is the result of overhorse power I'll just wait till my wife drives the truck and blame it on her and get me a brand spankin new one, yee haw. Worked before with the clutches in my Z28 why not now. Boys I will have a new tranny in a year, hot dang. thanks for all the help by the way, thinking of waiting for the CTS edge to come out, oh one more question? what is a BHAF?

10-4 on saving the pump, lost a pump on a JD tractor. We ate beans for 2 months trying to pay for a new one back when I was a kid. Don't ever want to do that again, take care man. Tree out
