Gauges

Gauges
i need to get some guages for my truck, but i have a few questions on the fuel pressure guage hook up. my plan is to tee into the fuel line at the VP44 then run a line to an isolator, then from isolator to my guage. my new fuel delivery system bypasses the factory fuel filter and goes straight to the VP44. the new fuel line is a 1/2 ID line that connects to the VP44 via a new 1/2x1/2 hex nipple. now my plan was to get a 1/2x1/2x1/2 female tee and connect that to the nipple on the VP44 then get another 1/2x1/2 nipple for the fuel line, and then a 1/2 to 1/8 reducer for the line to the isolator. i want a clean looking setup after its all said and done, and not some half *** job. for those of you that have installed a fuel pressure guage how did you do it and do you have pictures you can post of the install?

This is very easy. Call up Eric at Vulcan Performance and get one of these:

You can also get a line like this and take the pressure reading off the test port on the VP-44.

You could also use this on the test port:

Personally, I would skip the isolator, use a needle valve and run fuel to the guage....works very well for me.

What the needle valve does is dampens the pressure pulses from the lift pump (I cant speak about the Air Dog but I assume its similar). You would install the needle valve on the Tee and run 1/8" line through your firewall to the guage. The needle valve is only cracked enough to get a steady reading. Its not really a big deal to run fuel into the cab. If you use good parts and do a good install you should have NOTHING to worry about.
I can help you further with the needle valve if you are interested.

i would kinda like to keep the fuel out of the cab if at all possible. but the needle valve is alot less then the isolator. so if the pump pulses wont the guage pulse as well? and what else can you tell me about the needle valve?

another question is what brand guages is every one running? i was thinking about going with ISSPRO, only because their pyro guage temps are color coded for whats safe and whats not. i know its person preference but im open for suggestions.

Stewart Warner Performance Line - http://www.sw-performance.com/
Isspro EV Series - http://www.isspro.com/categories.php?cat=143
DiPricol Optix - http://www.danininc.com/
Autometer - http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugeseries.aspx
ALL of the abouve are very good guages. I tend to lean toward the Isspros for matching the stock guages..
Heres a tip - pay the few extra bucks and get the LED lighting - it rocks. (Stewart Warner, Dipricol, and Isspro all offer the LED lighting - Autmeter probably does as well).

I know most everybody out there runs the fuel into the cab and I have never heard of a single problem, but I also know my luck. I won't run into inside. For a few years I had the guage mounted right down by the winshield wiper on the cowling, this way I could see it from the drivers seat. My trucks a little older now and a little rougher lookin so I don't get quit so up tight about perfect looks anymore. I just drilled a hole in the hood and used a rubber grommet to mount the guage on the hood right in front of the drivers area.

I keep thinkin about puttin a rear facing hood scoop on and mounting most of the guages in a mount under the scoop. You could even use magnets to hold a piece of plexi glass in place if you wanted to seal em from the wind rain and snow.

Guages outside arent very good for me...it just gets too cold here.
