imo, instead of physical damage to the person, take him to court, and have him pay for all the damage and down time for the truck

Thats totally lame. The point of a joke is to do something that makes the truck not work, but doesn't cause any damage. A bolt in your intake is going to do some damage.

I would love to take him to court cause a person like that is so stupid, an *** beating wont do anything for him. But i have no clue who would do that to me of all people, i help everyone else in the shop
