Default Tranny???

Alrighty folks. I'm looking for some guidance on buying a transmission. A guy from around here has a 95 that he just converted to a 5spd. He has the old transmission from it wich was rebuilt a year and a half ago. It has a performance valve body, aftermarket torque converter( it's gun metal gray, kind of think it's a BD) andcome with an ATS lockup commander. He's offering me one heck of a deal to get rid of it. I can buy the TC and valve body for $300 or I can buy the hole thing for $1000, what do you's think? will it work on a 97? He said his truck is making around 400HP and the trans didn't think slipping. Only bad this is he said it has 2 sensors out. I think he means the solenoids in the valve body, but anyways whats your 2 cents on this.

Thanks.

It wont be a drop-in replacement but you can make it work. Your truck has a 47RE a 95 would have a 47RH.

Got a different deal worked out, $300 for the torque converter and the ATS commander, the way I figure, I can buy this then go to HTS and buy a valve body and have a set up for around 700-$800. Should be good enough for the new truck. What do you's think about that one?

As long as the clutches in the transmission are in good enough shape to accept a VB upgrade, I would say you are looking good. Are you planning on staying stock or adding some more power? An input shaft would be nessissary if you intend to build more than about 350-400hp and be rough with it. The converter have a part number or anything on it? Might just be an Axium or another off brand, who ever built it may have sourced it from a local transmission supply house. Hard to say.

truck has 49,000 miles on it. So trans is in good shape. It deffinently isn't staying stock, but aint going to get to wild.......yet 100 plate and a set of 370's. I havn't seen the torque converter, gonna pick it up on friday and then maybe I can find some numbers and post em up if maybe someone could look them up.

And how badly would I need an input shaft? Won't do any boosted launches with it, it'll see the ocasional romp but not a boosted launched and I rarley tow. And a TC from a 95 will fit a 97 won't it?

I picked up my parts today, ATS commander in good shape, and the TC. Turns out it was manufactured by protorque. Anyone ever heard of them? Depending on how good of a product they make it looks like I got lucky, cuz it's a tripple disk Anyone know how to wire the Commander?
