Default Smarty F***ed up my truck help!!!

Bought a S-03 from craigslist. Plugged it in worked fine. Very next day went to change it from level 4 to level 3 and the smarty would not connect with the truck. Smarty said unknown software detected. Smarty detected DTC codes P0341 and P1693. One is a companion code and the other is a camshaft sensor code. I replaced the sensor and still same codes pop up and smarty wont connect. Also when I start the truck, it has a very rough low idle and the rpm needle jumps all over for about 10-15 seconds then the rpms come back up to normal idle rpms and the rpm needle reads zero. The truck has no power and is in a "limp mode" when driving. Anybody know what to do here? I will add another post if I remember any other important details. If my ECM or PCM were fried, the truck should not start let alone drive correct?

have you tried returning to stock with it? if/when you can do that, then update the smarty and try again.

Smarty won't connect with the truck. Only reads the DTCs.

that's what I hear from a lot of people but I called today at 4 and they told me to update the smarty online so I did and still same problems. The guy I talked to didn't seem like he knew a lot. my smarty says ERROR UNKNOWN SOFTWARE. he says hes never heard of that. that is one of the error messages in the smarty manual. I am going to call again tomorrow bc they closed before I was finished updating smarty. Any other suggestions are welcome.

also, I am going to try replacing the camshaft sensor again with another brand new sensor. if it still doesn't work, I think I may need to reflash my ecm. tell me if I am right or wrong.

Default Smarty Problems Fixed

So here's the whole story in detail. I bought a s-03 from craigslist. Tested it when I got there worked fine. Pulled over on way home to double check it by switchin levels. Worked fine. Next day I go to switch from level 4 to level 3 and it finishes update. I start the truck and it has a crazy rough idle and the tach is jumping around everywhere under 1k. Does that for about 15 seconds then all of a sudden the rpm needle goes to zero but the engine starts idling normally. Threw a P1693 code and a P0341. P1693 is a code that says "DTC Detected in companion JTEC Module", and P0341 is a Camshaft Position Sensor code. The smarty would no longer connect with the truck. when I pressed connect truck it said ERROR UNKNOWN SOFTWARE. When I drove it, it was in limp mode and could barely move. It was pretty much like the half power setting on the smarty. Now first off, I have to give a HUGE THANK YOU to the lead technichian Dylan Satterlee at smarty resource, if not for him I would probably still have a broken truck and I would have spent 135 dollars at the dealer to reflash my ecm when I didn't have to. When I spoke with Dylan, he went through a series of troubleshooting techniques with me. We tried reloading the current revo software and then connecting to the truck. Didn't work. Then he emailed me a recovery file for my specific truck so that I could reflash my ecm. You have to download the smarty udc software to update the smarty with the recovery file. Once that is done all that will be on your smarty is the option of pressing 1 which is the recovery file. It worked and my truck was running fine again except it was now throwing a P1694 code which is NO BUS MESSAGES RECEIVED FROM COMPANION MODULE. Once I reinstalled the current revo software on the smarty, it still would not connect with the truck and displayed the message WARNING ECM CHANGED. I disconnected my batteries for an hour with the key forward to ignition to drain the charge left in the capacitors in order to clear the p1694 code. smarty still would not connect and when started, the truck would pop up the p1694 code again. The final fix was to press and hold some buttons and plug in the smarty then release the buttons. A password entry screen pops up and I entered the password given to me from Dylan. Then once entered, a reset to stock screen pops up and I proceed. My ecm is reflashed and the smarty works perfect now. I was going to include the numbers I had to press but im not sure if they are specific to my truck so I don't wanna give out directions that could be potentially harmful to someone elses truck. Sorry such a long post but wanted to give specific details to my problems and the fixes so that someone with similar problems could compare. I also will say again, THANK YOU DYLAN SATTERLEE for all your support. The guys at smarty definitely know what theyre doing. If you have smarty problems, call these guys. They don't just know about smarty, they know diesels too.
