Default Opinions on this turbo???

My truck has 235k on the clock. The factory turbo well I feel its in need of a going threw. I would also like to up the size just a bit. details of my truck are in the sig. I am also considering getting some rv275 injectors.
My truck isn't a daily or an extreme heavy hauler. I don't play around too much. budgets doesn't allow to burn up a set of tires at my leisure.

Prolly a little more turbo than you need and spool will be slow even with the RV275's

you can easily run RV275's with the stock hx35w...

hx40 is not a good "upgrade"

It will lag like a pig.

however if you want a mild upgrade to your stocker that can handle some power and would be an excellent secondary in a future twin setup: get a S300G (57/65/12)

you will need an hx40 style downpipe, but it will spool similar to stock but keep your top end a bit cooler...

stock hx35w specs are (56/60/12)

don't let the small compressor inducer size fool you...that borg warner turbo will flow a LOT of air... they have the extended tip compressor fins that scoop up a lot more air than the holsets fin design does. not to mention BW turbos have a much stronger turbo shaft that is very strong and can take a lot more abuse.

should pretty much be a direct bolt in affair other than the down pipe...you will want the new injectors first though. or maybe even go larger with something like a DFI 50hp or 75hp injector if you just want a small boost in power?

FYI RV275 is a 40hp injector.

Thanks, for the bit of info, Now I am completely new to understanding turbos. Borg Warner turbo you mention, Now is that a stock Turbo off a certain truck? Where should I look for one. As for my injectors, I haven't decided what I want to do. I want to maintain MPGs as much as possible. hoping to cool down my EGTs some also.
right now I'm lucky if I get it to hit 17 psi, I haven't checked for leaks yet. but something is definitely not right in my book.

you can throw a J-hook on it to get more boost out of it...

j-hook will keep the gate closed longer to help it spool higher.

assuming you have the HY35W since you have an automatic trans.

even an HX35W would be a step up from what you have now..

if you do have the HY35W then the specs for that turbo are 56/58/9

as for your BW question: you can find S300G's on certain stock cummins engines in offroad applications like generators, loaders/excavators/dozers, etc.

jacob from "diesel auto power" can get you a brand new S300G in 57/65/12 or 57/65/14.

that turbo with some mild injectors would make a nice setup with a decent amount of power.

as for fuel economy: when my truck was stock as far as power mods go...I could do 17mpg... that was with the stock 216 RWHP on a rated 235hp @ flywheel (I dynoed it before I did mods)

now the truck is somewhere around 600hp+ and I get over 15mpg still... I have almost tripled the horsepower and I'm still getting 15mpg!!!

believe me when I say, with 50hp injectors and a mild turbo upgrade, you won't loose any MPG's. If anything, you will probably gain fuel economy with the injector upgrade so long as you don't go huge with injectors like I did.

Yes mine has the factory HY on it. I am gun shy about putting to much power adders seeing the trans is an auto. It appears to have been rebuilt by the PO, but nothing but a stock rebuild. I'm saving for a torque convertor, I have a shift kit, I just haven't installed it yet. Trans is fine right now shifts good, but I would feel better knowing that certain parts were swapped out. Thanks for the info.

converter and valve body will go a long way for your trans...

Lots of bad advice in this thread. That turbo is the best bang for the buck upgrade replacement for an HX35, bar none. HY? Probably so as well. 16cm ex housing spools great w/minimal fuel. I have one on my 1st Gen. It is a cheap chinese turbo that does most of what the same Holset for 3x the money will do. Be advised it is a 3" exhaust, which I chose deliberately to keep my Pacbrake. Spools great with 5x.012s in my 1st Gen, notice no difference from the 12cm and stock injectors, just more boost and power.

bad advice? ...yeah you are giving some bad advice...

you realize the 24v close equivalent of a 5x.012 12v injector is a 7x.010 SAC injector which is a 150hp+ injector for the 24v.

just for reference the RV275 injector is a 7x.0079 aka 40hp injector.

trust me when I say a RV275 with a hx40 will lag like a pig...I am not new to 24v's by any means nor am I new to modifying them and getting power out of them.

I daily drive a 600hp+ vp44 truck...

Nope sorry, not gonna trust you. That turbo and injector combo would run great on his truck.
